"Oh Rafe, you mustn't go! You and Evelyn are unfinished!" I wept in his arms at the train station. "Are you doubting my flying?" Rafe asks with a playful smirk, making me roll my eyes as tears ran down my cheeks. A smile crept its way onto my face.

"Rafe! Danny! My daddy just got me a new dress!" I gushed with a heavy southern accent running towards my two best friends. Danny stood up and twirled me as Rafe looked at me with an approving smile. "That sky blue color looks good on you." Danny says to me, Rafe throwing in an approval chant behind him. It was a sleeveless, buttoned up dress that fit my small frame perfectly. Rafe stood up and wiped the grease off his hands with a smile. "So are you boys coming to school today? It's the last day." I ask while fixing my white hairband.
"Yeah, we'll be there." Danny smiles at me and Rafe punches his shoulder. "Sorry Mel, but we aren't goin'." Rafe says looking down. A frown takes over my face. "Well are you at least gonna be able to fly in my daddy's plane when i get back? We do it every year." I ask, disappointment laced in my voice. I noticed neither where looking at me, i furrowed my eyebrows. "Is there somethin' you haven't told me?" I ask crossing my arms. "Mel, we're joinin' the air force. We just-We just didn't know how to tell ya." Danny chokes on his words. "Danny, Rafe, your my best friends! Why couldn't you tell me sooner?" I ask. "Well, i gotta go in. I need to get to bed but uh i'll see you around." I say and walk away. I could feel their eyes burning in the back of my head.
