"What do you mean she's not a fox," I panicked, "yes she is, what else would she be?"

"There are other creatures like us," Chase said, "Humanimals, except they're not foxes, they're called wolves..." So he does know about them, "...They are dangerous and menacing. Wolves are killers, they're savage, wild, and vicious. Wolves are mean, evil creatures. Wolves are a threat to our kind." They are? That's not what I've seen, they seem like us, living their lives. I mean there are jerks here and there, but they don't seem dangerous. Some foxes are jerks too, so?

"What do you mean? Kayla's not like that," I argued.

"Lukas...," Sherah whispered trying to calm me down.

"She might be, it's probably a trap," Chase replied.

"No, it's not," I told him, "I know her, she is not a threat, and neither is her kind."

He frowned, "You knew," Chase whispered, as the realization hit him. His eyes narrowed.

Sherah looked back and forth between us, sadness filled her eyes.

"Yeah I do know and she's still the coolest girl I've ever met," I said fiercely, "she's my best friend."

"Too bad," Chase scolded, "Cause you're never seeing her again."

"WHAT?" No! I can't accept this. Kayla's my best friend. And she'll be waiting for me, tomorrow. She'll feel betrayed if I don't show up like I said I would. What am I going to do?

"Lukas," Sherah said gently, "It's for the best."

"How? She's my only friend who knows me and likes the same kind of things as me," I asked them, fuming, "How is taking her away from me, good?"

"Don't talk to us like that," Chase said, enraged, "We're trying to protect you."

"Really 'cause it feels like the opposite," I stomped away, I went to my room.

"Don't stomp away when I'm talking to you," I heard Chase say, from behind me.

"Chase, just let him go," Sherah said, calming him down.

I storm into my room, slamming the door shut behind me. I lay across my bed, thinking. What am I going to do? Maybe sleeping will give a better idea of what to do. I doubt sleep will come easy, though. I'm still going to try. After a little while I finally slowly fell asleep.

The sun's light woke me up in the morning. I yawned sleepily, a little sore from yesterday.

I still don't know what to do. I mean, on one hand I could just not go, and wait for Kayla to be disappointed to the point where she hunts me down, and on the other hand I could ignore Chase's command and sneak off to see her. I don't like the first one, but it would be hard to do the second one. If only I had someone who's smart and would be willing to help me.

But no one else knows that Kayla is a wolf, and so they wouldn't understand why I can't see her. It would be weird to ask a stranger, so I can't do that, I doubt I could meet someone randomly figure out a lot about them, and then become their best friend enough to where they trust me, within a few hours. The other boys will think something weird, like I'm sneaking off to see her because I have a crush on her, and Adriana... well she might think the same, but react differently. So who can I trust?

There was a knock on my door, "Lukas," Sherah said from the other side, "can I come in?" I frowned, crossed my arms, and didn't answer in defiance. Sherah opened the door gently, and peeked in. She sighed, "I know you're mad, but we're just trying to protect you."
