"I want to be a knight for L/N's Kingdom!" The young brown-haired boy in a thin, beige-colored shirt that was slightly torn, persisted with burning determination with his fists balling up.

That little boy, with lively green eyes and narrowed brows, was Eren Yeager at the age of ten, dreaming of becoming a knight of L/N's Kingdom to support his parents.

His parents exchanged themselves a look, the father looked down at his son in front of them. "... do you know what're you saying, son?"

The Yeager family's status wasn't too rich, they lived in a small wooden house together with the lack of warmth and security in a small village with the least population that was surrounded by tall and vivid colored trees.

The location from the village to the Kingdom was somewhere more than a hundred kilometers walk which takes theoretically a day and a half since there will be some blocking paths. And to take breaks as well. Taking a carriage over there would be faster but expensive.

Grisha Yeager was a villagers' doctor. Sometimes he has to be absent for one to three days due to wandering from his home to the further village.

Unfortunately, the income wasn't enough for them to enhance their uncomfortably small house including the food and clothes they had to pay. The Yeager family was only able to have from two to three outfits each and a pair of shoes to share.

The young Eren wasn't a fool to know that his parents are struggling since his mother always had to be home to do her chores while the father had to work. He wanted to do something against that.

"Yes, Father! I do wish to be a knight of L/N!" Eren confirmed his father's question.

"Where did you get that idea from, Eren?" Carla asked in genuine curiosity where her son came up with the idea of becoming a knight and how could he know such a thing.

"A week ago I went on my errands to bring the fresh loaf of bread, I overheard two men talking about it. The one said that you'll get paid a lot if you become a knight of L/N! And you can become a hero!" The short brown-haired boy exclaimed with passion in his tone. "I want to be a hero too! I want to wipe those silly faces' off of the earth and bring peace!"

The parents of one child were speechless, not knowing what to react to their child's statement. There was a moment of silence, Mr. and Mrs. Yeager had to think about what to say to their child, despite seeing that Eren wasn't still giving up.

Eren stood before his parents, fully confident in what he had said, and wasn't taken aback by his parents' reactions; he was the one to desire to become a guardian of a royal family at a young age.

But it was Carla who broke the rigid silence by kneeling, she was, of course, worried that her son might get killed in any possibility of an accident at war or anything. "Listen, Eren... you're too young, you needn't cut your life short... it's too dangerous."

"But Mother, I can assure you if I train in two months, I'll be suited for a knight!" A young boy named Eren disputed, sticking to his goal.

The father's brow quirked upwards and other downwards as his glasses slipped down slightly, showing his visible confusion. "Besides that, how will you train? Where are you going to train? To whom?" Grisha questioned his son with an incredulous look, who mentioned the training in two months to become a knight.

On the other hand, Eren was prepared to answer his parents' alike questions. "I overheard as well that there is a place to train for people who don't know the steps of becoming a knight! I have learned about it a bit!"

Carla bit inside her lip lightly in worry, tucking her strands of hair behind her ear then proceeded to speak up again. "Okay, Eren. We hear you. But you're too young, they accept fifteen years old above, therefore you cannot become a knight right now. Give it five years then you can rethink your decision, is that understood?"

Eren clutched on his worn-out brown pants in a slight disappointment. He wanted to join them as of right now. "But—!" The green-eyed toddler halted himself from arguing more with his parents to put some thought on it.

He then gave it some thoughts; maybe it wasn't such a bad option, thus he could still be with his parents for five more years. But if somebody was to tell him to quit trying to be a knight in the future, like the hell he will.

After all, he was a hard-headed boy.

Eren eased his grip on his pants, agreeing to his parents' request. "Fine. I'll wait for five years then I'll become a man to protect my family and friends!"

The fair-skinned lady smiled at her son, petting his head. "Yes, you will."

Just like that, maybe he will change his mind. Children can't hold their promises when they grow older.

But... Eren is...
