Without Grace

Chapter One

"Great!" I say as all my papers flood onto the ground.
" Sorry, I'll help! I didn't mean to!"
That's Phillip, a terrible intern that never understands what he's doing, and works in an office building with no clue on what we even do here. He just runs around the building like a chicken that lost his head.
" I'll get it!" I snap right back at him. He then gets up and walks away. I pick it all up and now I'm really late. I get to my office I slam the door and sit down and just think of the bad day I've already had. My boss opens the door and shuts it slowly. I know it's gonna be terrible.
" Well, well guess who finally decided to show..."
" I'm so sorry. It won't happen again. I promise!" I interrupt.
" Okay fine! It's your last warning if it happens again then... then.. I guess I'll have to fire you." He then walks out and I let out the longest sigh. I then see a picture of my kids Heaven, Grace, and Cooper. I imagine what my life would be without them. I wouldn't have to get up so early, I would not eat breakfast, and I would have had so many late nights that I stayed up holding them and trying to rock them to sleep. I then hear my phone ring and it comes up with Riverside Elementary school. I figured that Cooper got in trouble again. Man that kid is a trouble maker!
"Hello?"
" Hi, this is the nurses office at Riverside Elementary. Grace hasn't been feeling good and she said that she has terrible headaches and she has a really high fever. I was wondering if you could come pick her up?"
" Yeah, I can but can you let Heaven and Cooper know that their aunt will come pick them up today? They were gonna go home with her anyway but I forgot to tell them."
" I sure can. See you soon."
I then go ask my boss if I can leave and he says yeah whatever it's a family emergency so that's fine. I then go back to my office and collect all my papers and head to the car. I am speeding to the school trying to get Grace and I see an ambulance speeding behind me. I pull over and then wait for it to pass. I just kept driving and I arrive at the school and the ambulance is their at the school. I get out of the car and I see them loading somebody up into the back of the ambulance. I see the principal and I rush over to see who it was.
" Who was that?"
" You didn't hear? That's Grace."
