Hi, My name is Frankie Lopez and I am 15 and growing up in the projects in Compton,California. My mom is a night time prostitute and my dad is locked up in prison for gang involvement murder and a bank robbery. I have to go to Compton high school and the school is almost 2 miles away from my house. I have to walk a little less than a mile then wait for the bus and go to school. I come to school and there are people smoking and drinking alcohol around every corner. There are all different kinds of gangs in Compton there are bloods and crips. One day I am gonna grow up and get a million dollars and take my mom out of the projects and to a nice big house. I miss my dad everyday my mom let's me write one letter to him a week. He is getting out of prison in 10 years I can't wait. There are shootings every night...sirens always going all night. I also have a brother in foster care he is coming home tomorrow I am so excited it has been two year's.
My house has been shot up by a gang who wants our house for drug making. I don't feel safe to walk out of my house I am scared I will be shot down down right on my porch. My mom bought me cell phone today for my birthday for emergencies only she said. It's the best thing I have gotten in a few years. People wouldn't understand how hard it is when everything's not handed to you on a golden platter. I going to try to go to sleep tonight.
