"10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Happy New Year!" I cheer with my friends. "Hey Rose, are you coming to the party tomorrow night?" My friend Ava asks. "Nah, it's not really my scene. And plus, I have to make sure I've got everything for college!" I reply. "Ohhhh, c'mon Rose! Don't be such a worrywart! College is ages away!" My other friend April says. "I know, I just like to be prepared for everything!" "We know!" Ava and April say, rolling their eyes. I give them both a friendly nudge and say "Come on, let's go get a midnight snack"
We walk out to the kitchen quietly and grab some Vanilla Ice-cream, nutella, strawberries and three spoons. I'm always worrying about college. Especially because my only friends in the world are going to college in Lancaster (my home town) and I'm moving to Los Angeles to go to UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles). When we get back into my room, we have a debate on what movie to watch and we finally decide on The Fault In Our Stars (April's choice). The fault in our stars is a sappy love story of two cancer kids, the guy lost his leg and the girl has to carry around an oxygen tank because she has shitty lungs. It's actually a pretty good movie. When it's over, Ava says "Well that movie was boring." She isn't into romance. "Well I'm gonna go to sleep now, goodnight." I say in between yawning. "Goodnight" Ava replies. "Goodnight, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite." April adds while turning off the light.
I wake up in the morning to two figures hovering over my face. "Good morning Rose." I'm about to scream but then I realise that it's just Ava and April. They fall back and laugh from my reaction. "That is so not funny! I thought someone was going to try and kidnap me!" I yell. Then I realise how rediculous I sound, so I can't help but laugh at myself with them. We get up and have pancakes with ice-cream for breakfast. When we're finished breakfast, we go back up the stairs to my room and get changed. "What do you girls want to do today?" I ask Ava and April. "We could go to the ice rink?" Ava replies. "Yeah, that sounds like fun." April adds. "Okay, let's get into warm clothes then." I say cheerily. After we change again, we tell my mum where we are going and because it's only 5 minutes from my house, we walk.
"Size 9 please." Ava says when we get to the ice skates counter. "Make that two size 9's!" I add. "And a size 7 please!" April asks. The guy at the counter hands us our skates and we sit down on a bench and put them on. "You two better hold my hands the ENTIRE time!" April growls. "Okay little baby." I tease. She gives me a soft nudge before standing up. Well more like wobbling. Ava finishes tying the laces on her skates then joins April. Once I finally tie my laces, we all start stepping awkwardly towards the rink. Ava is really good at ice skating so she zooms off as soon as we reach the ice. April nearly falls when she steps onto the ice and she uses my shoulder to stable herself. "Phew that was close." April laughs and I laugh with her. "C'mon, it isn't that hard!" I say while moving my feet slowly. "Yes... it... is..." April replies while trying to get her balance. "You just have to move your feet in time!" I tell her while trying to demonstrate. By this time, April has already done a full lap of the rink and she has now turned around and is skating backwards. I don't know how she does it so easily.
"C'mon April you can do it!" Ava cheers as she passes us once again. Now she's spinning around in circles when suddenly she hits the wall and April and I nearly fall over from laughing so much. Ava childishly sticks her tongue out at us, which causes us to laugh even harder. "I purposely did that." Ava says while trying not to act embarrassed. "Yeah sure you did." I mock her while still laughing.
