I.

Lan Wangji woke up at five in the morning as usual to find the space next to him, where his husband was supposed to be, empty. He simply concluded that Wei Wuxian had spent another night working on his research and had simply forgotten to come to bed. The gold eyed male made a mental note to convince his husband to get some sleep later.

He got up to get ready, preparing a bath for his husband as well for when he returns in the process. As he was tying his headband around his forehead the door of the Jingshi flew open to reveal a disheveled Wei Wuxian, who was concerningly covered from head to toe in flour.

It seemed that Lan Wangji's concern was visible on his face as Wei Wuxian smiled at him and waved his hand as if to motion that nothing had happened that needed the Wangji's concern. The former's eyes followed the latter as he walked towards the bath and cupped some water in his hands and washed the flour off his face.

Wei Wuxian then pulled the screen and got ready to bath without once explaining the state in which he had entered their house. Wangji sighed internally and let it be. After a few months of marrying the man, he had learned the hard way that Wei Wuxian's experiments often ended up blowing in his face. The first time that happened was when Lan Wangji entered the Jingshi to find it covered in ice and his husband standing in the middle of it all with his feet frozen to the ground.

Therefore, Wangji thought it safe to assume that this was also one of those times. He said goodbye to his husband who was still bathing, and left to look for his uncle.

Lan Wangji found his uncle in his office working on a few documents related to the sect while eating(!?) a few steamed buns which were in a bowl next to the pile of papers. The younger man noticed that every time his uncle took a bite he would look at the bun with such betrayal and that baffled him a bit.

Lan Qiren finally noticed his nephew standing at the open door of his office and greeted him.

"Ah Wangji! Good Morning. Come in, I have a few documents that need to be signed by you." His uncle put down his half eaten bun back in the bowl and took a thin bundle of papers which Wangji figured were the ones he needed to sign. He took a seat in front of his uncle, dipped the extra quill into the ink and started signing.

Most of them were about the Cultivation Conference Gusu was holding in a few months, others from the night hunts the Lan disciples went on. Lan Qiren figured his nephew came here without eating anything so he offered the steamed buns. Wangji took one and nibbled on it. He had to admit, it was good. He inquired,

"Shufu, did you make those steamed buns?" His uncle's posture stiffened and with much reluctance he answered,

"I didn't make these. Wei Wuxian did. He came in ten minutes before you and left them here." To say that the great Hanguang-jun was surprised was an understatement. Sure he happy that his uncle and husband were on friendly terms but he wondered what brought this sudden change.

The rest of the day went by with Wangji taking care of a sect matters and Wei Wuxian teaching the junior disciples how to create simple talismans and spending some time with Jingyi and Sizhui at the rabbit field.

That night when Lan Zhan returned to the Jingshi he asked Wei Ying all the questions swarming in his mind.

"Wei Ying, why did you make steamed buns for shufu so early in the morning?" The immediate reaction to this question was a scowl. Wangji was once again surprised to see such an expression.

"It's because yesterday when I was inventing a few new talismans there were a few complications and your uncles gave me a few reference books which really helped and I was extremely mad about so I made him his favourite steamed buns as snacks this morning for revenge." Today just seems to be full of surprises for the Second Jade of Lan.
