The soft chirping of the morning birds flitted through the tiny windows of a small village house. Golden beams of the morning rays shone in an almost delicate way through the windows thin curtains.A sliver of the mornings light fell on the sleeping face of a young female, still curled up in a slumber. The light fell perfectly across the smooth cheek of the female, making her pale skinned complexion seem even more ceramic white. Regardless of the time of morning it didn't seem the girl wanted to wake; though, that wasn't unusual.
Interrupting the peaceful tranquility of the quiet room, the door that separated her world for the rest, burst open.
"Mary Ann! Wake up this instance child. What am I going to do with you?" Fretted the mother of the slumbering female. The mother sighed as there was absolutely no response from Mary Ann and quickly strode over to the side of the bed. Taking the fabric of the bed cover in her bony fingers, the blanket was ripped off Mary Ann's body. "Wake up! You are late!"
The closed eyelids of Mary Ann flew open, exposing her vibrant blue hues as they darted around the room in a confused panic. Once she settled her gaze on her mother, she heaved a huge sigh and tried to bury her head under the pillows.
"Oh no you don't!" Moving quick, the mother threw the pillows off her daughter's head. The action was greeted with a loud groan of discontent and a glare from Mary Ann. Mary's mother simply shrugged, arching her eyebrow as if she dared her daughter to argue with her or fight back.
"Fine! I'm up." Mary Ann conceded, propping herself up in the bed to a sitting position. The cotton white nightgown that Mary Ann was wearing, pooled at her waist, obviously not minding if her mother saw her undergarments. To this, her mother turned her nose up and walked out of the room, but not before pausing at the door.
"You're going to be late so hurry up, and would it kill you to have some manners for once? How will anyone ever want to marry you if you can't even act like lady. You dress the part but your actions are absolutely deplorable. When you get home later we will have another lesson on manner and etiquette."
With those final words, the door to Mary Ann's room was shut, the tapping of the mothers shoes on the old wooden floors slowly retreating until Mary couldn't hear them anymore. Once she was sure her mother couldn't hear her, she stuck out her tongue in a childish way and made mocking sounds.
"Who needs manners? I'm a baker's daughter, what do I need them for? Manners are for royals, and any country hillbilly boy would be lucky to have me! Humph."
Swinging her legs over the side of the bed, Mary put her feet on the wooden floor, hissing when the ice cold floor boards touched the soft pads of her feet. Rising her body from the bed, she turned her head and glanced at her reflection in her vanity mirror. Piercing blue eyes met her own gaze as she stared at herself. Chocolate brown hair framed her face in a messy and tangled fashion, showing she had tossed and turned through the night. The facial structure of Mary Ann was very delicate and she had beautiful heart shaped face with smooth, high placed cheek bones. Freckles lightly dotted over the bridge of her nose and across under her eyes, but that was about it. Her lips were plump and full, they were heart shaped to match her heart face, a nice compliment to each other. Mary was by far one of the most beautiful girls in her village. It was a little crazy because she didn't actually resemble her parents. Mary's mother had wild long red hair and her father was bald, so she didn't really know what his hair color was.
Running a hand through her untamed brown hair, this was the most she could ever really see a resemblance of her mother in her. Unknowingly, Mary had approached the vanity in her deep thought. Placing her hands and bracing herself on the smooth countertop of her vanity, she really examined her face, from the way she bit her lips to the way her eyebrows scrunched together in thought, and the details of her blue eyes.
