Chapter 5: For the First Time in Forever

A/N: Information for this chapter: When Wu sings, the words will be like this. When Garmadon sings, the words will be like this.

Its been 3 years since the First Spinjitzu Master passed away and this morning was the day that Garmadon will take over as Master. People from all over Ninjago heard the news and they were looking forward to seeing the new leader of the realm.

The elemental masters and villagers were on their way to climb the steps to the monastery, meanwhile, others were buzzing with excitement about the big day. "Welcome to the monetary of Ninjago, please watch your step, the gates should be opening soon!" A middle-aged citizen smiled as he politely welcomed groups of people who passed by. 

"Why do I have to wear this?" A  young boy complained as he fiddled with the material on his collar. "Because Garmadon has come of age, it's his ceremony today!" His mother smiled as she fixed her son's outfit. "It's not my fault" the boy mumbled sarcastically so his mother wouldn't hear. "I can't believe they're finally opening up the gates!" One man exclaimed. "And for a whole day!" His wife cheered as she nudged him to go faster.

Unaware of what's going on, Wu slept peacefully inside the monastery until his alarm suddenly went off. The younger sibling immediately woke up and prepared for the day ahead. He wanted this day to last forever since he never had any visitors in the monastery and it has been very lonely for him ever since Garmadon shut him out. Now Wu can finally meet everyone and he can catch up with his older brother. In the back of his mind, Wu still contemplated why Garmadon suddenly decided to isolate himself from the world. He wanted answers, but he decided to wait until another time. Wu was just grateful that he would see and maybe have small talk with Garmadon again.

With these thoughts consumed in his mind, Wu rushed out of his room to see the sunshine lighting up the hallway through the windows. "The window is open, so's that door! I didn't know they did that anymore." He picked up an empty plate off a stack on a table. "Who knew we owned eight thousand salad plates!"  Wu sprinted to a room that displayed many different kinds of swords and katanas. "For years I roamed these empty halls, why have a sword room with no swords!" Wu hopped on the railing and slid down. "Finally they're opening up the gates!"

"There'll be actual real-life people which would totally be strange, but wow am I so ready for this change!" Wu sang in excitement as he gazed out of the open window. He then crawled out and climbed the secret ladder attached to the monastery walls to reach the top. 

After Garmadon refused to speak with him, Wu finds himself on top of the monastery during some nights to clear his mind or to reflect on his deep thinking. 

"Cause for the first time in forever there'll be music, there'll be light. For the first time in forever, I'll be dancing through the night!" Wu sang as he sat on top of the roof, taking in the view of the outside world. 

After some moments of relaxing, the younger sibling climbed back down and crawled through the window. "Don't know if I'm elated or gassy but I'm somewhere in that zone! Cause for the first time in forever, I won't be alone." Wu smiled and felt a sense of comfort when he sang that line. "I can't wait to meet everyone, what if I meet the one!" Since Wu couldn't spend time with his brother, he pursued a new hobby of reading stories, especially romance. He immersed himself in the world of stories where people go on journeys to find their soul mates and Wu thought maybe he can find his true love one day.

The younger sibling sang as he acted out his encounter with his future soul mate. "Tonight imagine me robes and all fetchingly draped against the wall. The picture of sophisticated grace. I suddenly see her standing there, a beautiful lady sweet and fair. I wanna stuff some chocolate in my face, but then we laugh and talk all evening, which is totally bizarre. Nothing like the life I've led so far!"

Wu pushed through the doors to enter the large room full of paintings from the history of Ninjago. For the ones he viewed, he imagined himself as a part of the paintings. "For the first time in forever there'll be magic, there'll be fun. For the first time in forever, I could be noticed by someone. And I know it is totally crazy to dream I'd find romance! But for the first time in forever, at least I have a chance."

Garmadon walked toward the window and took a deep breath. "Don't let them in, don't let them see. Be the good boy you always have to be." He removed his gloves and strolled to a table that held the First Spinjitzu Master's bamboo staff. "Conceal, don't feel, put on a show." He held the staff in his right hand. "Make one wrong move and everyone will know." Garmadon quickly placed it down as darkness began to consume the staff.

"But it's only for today," Garmadon stated with confidence.

"It's only for today." Wu grinned in excitement.

"It's agony to wait."

"It's agony to wait."

"Tell myself to open up the gate!" Garmadon flipped a switch which allowed the monastery gate to open.

"The gate!" Wu shouted in excitement as the gate revealed the monastery courtyard.

"For the first time in forever!" Wu happily skipped with the people who arrived in the monastery courtyard.

"Don't let them in don't let them see." Garmadon slowly walked while muttering to himself in an attempt to suppress his nerves.

"I'm getting what I'm dreaming of!" Wu sang in delight.

"Be the good boy you always have to be." The older sibling pulled the door open in front of him where he could see the crowd of people gathered.

"A chance to change my lonely world! A chance to find true love!" Wu happily declared.

"Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know," Garmadon assured himself.

"I know it all ends tomorrow, so it has to be today! Cause for the first time in forever, for the first time in forever. Nothing's in my way!" The younger sibling sprinted with joy until he collided with someone, causing him to stumble and fall to the ground.
