If only I had picked up the phone back then.....its too late.....too late to think about that..... Narice makes her grip even stronger around the driving wheel, warm tears trailing down her cheeks and this time she does not pay any attention to them. As she whimpers in anger and regret, she takes another look at her phone still placed in her sight but no longer has his name flashing.
.........................
What's wrong with me? Not that I haven't been on dates before. Ugh. Narice tries to calm herself down as she waits for him.
A few minutes later finally her eyes fall on the boy she's been waiting for. Walking towards her, wearing a white tshirt that is so simple and simultaneously suites him perfectly with his blond hair and blue eyes. Even from that distance she observes all that subconsciously.
Uh why am I staring like a freak. She finally waves back at him breaking her trance.
Niall and Narice have known each other for a month now. After their first meeting in the backstage of a late night show where his rising band One Direction was the guests on that night promoting their second album.
Narice just casually came to see her father like she did often. Michael Jones, the host of that famous late night show and the father of Narice, introduced Narice and the boys to one another. In a family where almost everyone is somehow connected to media, Narice also aspired to be an actress ever since she was a kid but only recently she started to work as a teen actress. Her debut role in a teen drama earned her the reputation of a rising star as well.
Being introduced to new people isn't something Narice isn't used to but that night she felt nervous particularly talking to a boy. One of the five boys, the one with beautiful blue eyes and blond hair, captured her attention. She tried to brush off the feeling convincing herself she's just being weird. But somehow that night it wasn't just her feeling something different. Niall also felt a strange pull towards her. Her calm countenance and the mild look in her brown eyes...She is so beautiful.
"Sorry to keep you waiting," Niall says nervously rubbing the back of his head.
"Ah...no no..it's alright. I have only been here for a few minutes."Both feeling nervous on their first meeting, well more like first time only hanging out with one another. After being introduced that night, they discovered they indeed have few mutual friends that helped them run into each other a couple of times in the past few weeks. But even then they barely talked to each other although they wanted to really bad.
Unsure of what to say. They only have been chatting online for the past month. Although it became easier to talk online gradually, they were still unsure what to say now that they are finally standing face to face.
Is it a date? Is it just a casual hangout? The vagueness of the day kept them from planning something big or getting too dressed up.
Little did they know they both are sharing the same confusion. What should they say? How should they act so the other person doesn't think something might be awkward about them? All these thoughts flooded their minds. As if they were 12 and its their first ever date. Wait it's not really a date, or is it?
"So where are we going again?" Narice finally asked breaking the silence. Niall mentally slapped himself for being so quite the whole walk. "Uhh...its just round the corner. The coffee shop I told you about. Its not anything really grand but its peaceful there."
Since their work already made them famous enough to be often ambushed by fans, Niall chose a quite place for their first meet so they can peacefully enjoy their evening.
A small table for two, beside one of the windows framed with artificial flowers. But out the window there is a small garden, filled with natural blooming flowers. Most of the shop was surrounded by that garden and all the windows had a proper view of that so anyone sitting in those tables can have a pleasant time enjoying the scene and sipping in their coffee. For a shop comparatively remote and not so crowded, this place was something else.
After placing the orders Niall and Narice are yet to start a proper conversation.
Narice is looking outside the window, there's this calm expression on her face showing that she's liking what she's looking at, then again she always had a soothing look on her face, at least that's how she always looked like to Niall.
Niall sat on the other side of the table, observing her with an expression of admiration. She's so pretty even without trying. He's aware that his awkward stare might make her feel uncomfortable when she notices. At the same time he's trying really hard to start a conversation, one that will not be incongruous, afraid that otherwise the words will be more awkward than the silence.
"The bluebells are blooming so beautifully here," Narice broke the silence, still looking outside. Niall followed her line of gaze. The Spring is mild and the bluebells are looking like white-bells dipped in blue water-colour paint. "Yeah," Niall says in a soft voice, not that he would have noticed any flowers unless Narice pointed them out. He is far too busy admiring something else right now.
"You seem to like flowers a lot, don't you?"
"Yeah...well...not like that actually. I just love bluebells."Now that she mentioned, Niall noticed the dress she was wearing also had a similar colour on it. A pale blue or somewhat lilac.
"You are dressed like a bluebell yourself" What the heck did i just say! What type of line is that?
Narice chuckled at his comment clearing his mental rebuke. "Now that you mentioned..." Taking a glance at her dress she now looked at Niall. "I actually didn't notice. I am wearing the same colour" A small smile also painted on Niall's face as he watches her graceful grin.
Although they were both nervous initially, they really ended up enjoying the evening. Its so easy to get along with him. That's what Narice told herself while Niall also realised she's a very friendly and sweet person, both online and in person.
Looks like the first date went pretty smoothly. Oh wait it was a date right?
