* Disclaimer!! this poem was written from a template of the original poem "I Am From" I just added my own twist*
I am from black beans and rice,
From sugar and the smell of strong morning coffee
I am from the noisy bustling streets where cars honk all day and night
I am from white and yellow daisies
The big willow tree I long to see againI am from dancing and sad brown eyes, from aunts and uncles
I'm from salsa and regatón and from loving and caring peopleI'm from stop fuckn' up and behave and keep your head held up high, and from parties that last till the morning sun lights up the sky
I'm from Miami and Cuba
From ropa veija con garbanzos
From a life full of struggle and despair of wanting to do better than the one who came before her
Black and white photos of my abuela and her mami are hidden under her bed but that history will always have a place in my heartTake pride in your roots
