FLASHBACK: [april 2018]

subway rides were draining, i can't wait to get out of new york, one more month. one more month until i could go off and do whatever i wanted. i was soon jerked from my thoughts as we came to an abrupt stop, i took my headphones out my ears and stood up, grabbing onto the railing as i stepped onto the subway floor and looked over at my phone. shit 11:45, submissions end at 12. i gotta make it.

i tightened my backpack straps and sprinted out the station and down the street, no. this is my only shot out of here. i have to make it. 11:57 i ran into the post office and practically threw my stack of envelopes into the postal workers face. "did the shipment go out yet?" i ask her, completely out of breath. "no sweetie you haven't missed them" she smiled as she slipped the envelopes into a shipment bin.

anywhere, i prayed. anywhere but here. anywhere but new york

i wake up.

i look over at my clock and brush the mop of hair out of my face

3:12am

"oh hell no, fuck that." i exasperate. falling back onto my bed and into a deep sleep

FLASHBACK: [june 2018]

i'm gonna be stuck here forever. i thought as i glanced over at the ever growing pile of papers stating "we regret to inform you" and a dozen half assed apologies. my last two were coming today, i lost track of which ones they were, but they were my last hope of getting out of this fucking house. the sound of a wind chime soon followed by the sound of something being passed through the mail slot making me lose my train of thought.

- shit, that's them

i walked over to the mail basket reluctantly and pulled the two giant envelopes out and opening one. "stanford.. good choice y/n" i smiled to myself as i ripped open the envelope. "we're honored to have received your application, but we are ultimately apologetic to inform you that you have been wait listed" i read aloud. well its better than nothing. right? i sighed as i absentmindedly ripped open the other envelope and threw it behind me. "accepted?" i yelled. "where the hell, what college is this?" i shuffled around the papers and soon came to a welcome brochure

"the university of central florida"

i wake up.
