—Luna you can't keep doing that, it's bad enough that the King doesn't trust you- and I hated that. As she had so much to contribute to the kingdom– What do you think the liegeman would do if they saw you crawling into my window at 1 am?
— Denna. – she smiled, and my cheeks rosed– Your windows are turned to the stables, who do you think would see me? My horse?- she said with a light smile that made me easy up a little.
Luna made her way to my couch without being invited and lied there, probably waiting for me to follow.
—As much i find you incredibly funny–I lifted her legs to place them above my lap while I sitted by her side– I don't want you getting in trouble.– Not more than she already was– You are aware of how your brother sees our friendship– Even if I wasn't sure that she was really starting to be friends with me, or using me to escape her royal duties. But either way, I was fine with it.– He's one step of locking you in your bedroom forever.
—That's a bit dramatic don't you think?–She joked, but her expression didn't change. She was serious, the same face she used to cover the real her, that I used to see at a unique moment... When she was riding her white horse in the fields behind the garden.– Don't worry about me! I crawled through your window, you think my little brother could stop me from getting out of my room?– she laughed and placed her hand on mine.
The movement seemed awkward, I know we were friends but... I've been here for four months already, we were friends, but every time Luna touched me it felt like sparks in my hands and fire in my lungs, and fed a feeling that I couldn't allow myself to feel. That's why our proximity always scares me. It's true that Jake and I aren't in love, and we were barely friends, but I would still marry him, and If i'm not going crazy, this can't go in the direction I think it's going – as much as I crave her touch every single day.
Luna put her reddish hair up in a bun, letting out some smaller hair strands, falling over her gray eyes. Her skin under the barely illuminated room seemed to glow more than the candles placed up our heads. Her freckles reminded me of the constellations that me and my sister used to lay down to see back at Minerva. I missed home. And, if I'm being honest with myself, Luna was the only reason I was holding on here, without my sister and my mother.
—What's on your mind?– She caught me by surprise, making me shake a little as I my mind came back to the room.
—Just thinking about home.
—Oh. –She looked like she was searching for the right thing to say, but instead, she just took my hand. – Is that okay?
—What?– She laughed as I realized I had blushed even more and went stiff by the sensation of her fingers on mine.– Oh, of course– I smiled, but the expression did not met my eyes. I was so confused by everything she made me feel.
—Are you happy here Denna?
—I... I think I could be– I had never thought about that.
—I know but I mean... with my brother. Are you happy with marrying him, building a life in our kingdom... that sort of thing.
I didn't know what to say. My whole life was about becoming queen of Westrealm... I really thought I wanted that, until she asked me, and I couldn't get myself to say yes right away.
—You can talk to me. I know I haven't been the nicest with you since you arrived, and I think that, at this point, you're te only person who doesn't see me as a total mess.– I couldn't answer yet, I wanted her to open up with me, so I just waited for her to keep going- You know, when I wake up, and I remember you're here, it actually makes me happy to know that I'll have a real conversation with someone. Our horse lessons were the high point of my day.– she laughed– What a great day right?– She was joking, but again, her expression did not meet her eyes– What I'm trying to say is, I want to talk to you, and I want you to want to talk to me as well.
My heart was racing with the honesty in her words, I knew that, for Luna, opening up wasn't exactly the easiest thing to do.
—I'm scared Luna– She just nodded for me to go on– I was so sure about my future as queen, but now... I'm just scared my life isn't supposed to be like this... isn't supposed to be with him
—What do you mean?
There. I was in deep trouble. I couldn't tell her... I think. I don't even know yet if there's something to tell. What I do know is that my future husband's sister became the only reason I get out of bed in the morning.
—Luna, I just...– She squeezed my hand to encourage me, I placed my free hand in her leg– I really like you. I mean... I'm glad I met you – She lifted her legs from my lap and sitted straight, staring at me, too close.– I don't know how to say what I need to say.
We stood in silent for about thirty seconds that felt like a lifetime, her gray eyes staring into mine made everything out there, the war, the wedding, the kingdom... disappear. I could spend a lifetime just looking at her. Luna's hair fell from her bun, red waves all over her face, it reminded me of the fire I felt in my lungs everything she touched me.
—Denna...– I was afraid that I may have scared her away, but instead, she just placed her face closer too mine, I could feel her breath, I could almost hear her heartbeat... And then I realized my heart was racing faster than when we ran our horses all the way to the mountains behind the palace.
Luna placed my black hair behind my ears gently, her fingers touching my cheeks– If it was even possible, I would've turned even more red than I already was– She took both my hands, then opened her mouth to say something... and closed again.
—You can tell me.– My voice almost stuck in my throat with that awkward feeling in my stomach that's was starting to spread over my whole body.
Luna closed her eyes, searching for strength. She was so gorgeous.
—I love you. –My heart didn't race, instead I'm pretty sure it skipped a beat–or stopped for a second– I wasn't sure why, but my eyes teared up.
—I could wait a lifetime to hear you say that– A smile so big it hurted my cheeks placed in my face, and words just flew out of my mouth like I couldn't control my own senses anymore.— I love you. I love you since I first saw you in that white horse with your hair braided and your old ride boots. I love you since the first time you placed your hands on my waist to lift me up and place me in that horse. I loved you. And I love you. And I wanted to tell you that so hard that made my throat hurt by holding it in.– I couldn't see clearly, but I thought i've seen her eyes tear up as well– Luna... I don't know what to do, I don't know what the future holds, and to be honest right now i don't care, but I do know I've never felt my mouth as dry as when you show up with a smile and says my name.
—Denna...- my name in her mouth seemed prettier than ever— thank you. Thank you for saving me from, well, me.– Tears rolled up my eyes– When you showed up, I was so lost. The war was coming, my father was cutting me from every meeting about the future of our kingdom, I felt useless here. My brother was searching for someone to marry me so he could send me away, and I wouldn't be a burden anymore. I wouldn't be that stupid princess who ignored her duties and only played with horses.–She wasn't only that– I'm a joke to this whole kingdom, I'm a joke to my own people because of how my family treats me. Because of how they see me. But you... you saw me. You saw behind all this sorrow and anger, you saw behind everything you were told about me, and you came closer. You tried to talk to me like I was worth it. I have had princes and lords try to do the same, but I could see that they were only talking to me to please my brother... I suck at words but what I mean is– She wiped a tear– I love you so much it hurts, because you're not mine.
Her hands made their way up my thighs as she placed them on my waist. I wiped the rest of hear tears and kissed her forehead slowly, admiring every single feature of her. Our lips touched, and something about it seemed more right than everything else in my life, ever. She grabbed my neck and pulled my closer to her, I finally moved my hands, grabbing her and pulling her body in, holding so tight as if she would slip right through my fingers. She rushed the kiss, moving her hands up and down my waist, I touched her face and threw my leg over hers. She made an unexpected move, pulling me up and placing me bellow her, her hair falling now above my face.
Luna felt right. That's the only way I knew how to describe the feeling of having her in my hands.
She stopped the kiss to place her lips on my neck, the rush that ran through my body was indescribable. She kissed my neck... then my shoulder, gently moving her hands up and down my arms. As she stopped them right above my breast, I opened my eyes to give her permission to go on. She understood when my body went up so that her hands could untie my corset. As my upper clothes flew across the room, Lunas mouth went downer.
