Chapter 22
“Here’s some coffee,” Kayla offered, rubbing my shoulders. “You’re so tensed.”
“I have this article due tomorrow,” I informed her, staring at the screen of my laptop.
“You know you haven’t been sleeping well,” she told me, continuing to massage my shoulders.
I sighed. “I can’t sleep.”
“You’re worried about your dad,” she stated. “He’s going to be fine.”
I took off my glasses and rubbed my face tiredly. “He hates it here.”
“You and Sean are doing your best to find a way to get your dad home. Give it time,” Kayla comforted.
“Speak of the devil,” I murmured, seeing my brother’s name flashing on my cellphone. “Hey, Sean?”
“I got great news,” he told me excitedly. “Mom just called and told me that dad can be transferred to the hospital here.”
“What do you mean? What happened?” I asked.
Kayla stared at me, frowning. She mouthed the words ‘What happened?’ to me. I put a finger on my lip, telling her to be silent for a while.
“He can come home, tomorrow. Mom’s packing up the things now. Apparently, some guy over there allowed the transfer to take place,” Sean explained. “The doctor made sure there was a spot here. He took care of everything.”
“Who?” I asked, gripping the phone tightly.
“Uhh... Dr Stone or Worm or something,” he muttered.
“Dr Storm,” I mumbled.
“Yeah, that’s the guy. Anyway, mom told me to tell you not to worry. Everything’s under control. I’m getting her tomorrow,” he informed me.
“You mean the flight tickets are all settled?” I asked, frowning.
“That’s what i said. Everything is settled. Dr Storm handled it all,” Sean explained. I could imagine him smiling on the other end. “That guy deserves a medal.”
“Yeah, yeah, he does,” I agreed, thinking about the conversation i had with him. He did it. He helped get my dad home.
“Bye, sis. Take care alright,” Sean said caringly.
“Bye, Sean. Take care too. Say hello to Haley for me,” I said, hanging up.
I stared at the phone in my hand, still quite shocked at what i just heard. It was happy news but it seemed strange behaviour for the doctor to do so much for a patient. I looked at Kayla.
“What happened?” she asked, impatient.
“My dad’s going home. Apparently, everything’s settled,” I told her.
Her green eyes danced with joy. “That’s great news. Why do you look upset?”
I frowned at my phone. “Nothing. I just...it’s surprising.”
She smiled. “It is. Someone up there must really love you.”
“Hm. Maybe,” I mumbled.

After hearing the news, I marched down to the hospital as soon as possible. I had made sure that my parents got on the plane safely and Sean fetched them on time. Dave had offered to pay the hospital bills but I told him it was already paid. I had found that half my money had been refunded. Someone had paid the other half of my dad’s hospital bills. I had an inkling who that could be. And, i was marching on down right to him now.
