Sitting in pitch black darkness, all Kai could ever do is to wait in silence. As he sits still, his back arched down in a lazy slouch, hands put together.
Only the sensations of his heartbeat could be heard, gradually slowing down to a moderate pace.
Why? Why me?
The second born son of hells rule, it would be expected that the treatment of a prince would be better. Yet here Kai sat, the corners of Hell where even the light can't reach.
This was his punishment. And for what? Not reaching his fathers expectations again? Being a disappointment?
Kai squeezed his eyes shut in thought, it was only to be expected he was being treated this way. Compared to the first prince, his brother, Kai meant nothing.
It was quite obvious by now, having spent years wasted trying to gain even a slither of his fathers recognition, his pride, his joy, only to be casted away. Kai knew he didn't belong here, but what could he do? He only knew from storybooks there would be portals to other realms, to different dimensions, to other unworldly places he has never heard of.
Then again Kai's knowledge of the other worlds were limited. He was an intelligent young man, however his curiosities were destroyed by the environments he called home.
Hells Palace, or the so called Infernum was the only thing Kai knew generously about. As a child his innocence blocked him out of the darkness that laid ahead of him. However this was no permanent feature. With no-one to lean to as he reached his teenage years, Kai quickly realized Hells Palace was only a mere prison. Incasing him, trapping him of the freedom he longed for.
His thoughts were quickly disrupted by the faint footsteps outside his confined space. Kai slowly sat upright, leaning his body slightly to the side. Sight was useless in this situation.
"Young master." A voice echoed. "His majesty has requested you to come back from your punishment, he expects your audience by noon"
Kai nodded as this was a voice he recognized. One of the servants from Hells Palace regularly came to meet him, only with the purpose to inform him that his punishment was over. He needn't be late again, for his father never excused tardiness, especially from a prince.
The journey back was a grueling one. Kai descended from the confined space he spent the last 2 weeks in. He was lucky this time, as punishments like these could last up to months on end. He passed through the rough terrain back to Hells Palace, where he would he evaluated again by his father.

As his footsteps inched closer to the throne room, Kai clenched his fists in anticipation of meeting his father again. His breath uneven, small beads of sweat developed on the sides of his forehead.
He cautiously stepped in front of the palace gates, Kai sensed the heat emitting from the surface of the door, he once again realized the power his father had. King of Hell, ruler of the underworld. Kai couldn't help but think he was quite unfortunate to be born into this family.
"Enter" a loud booming voice came from the other side.
Kai shivered for a second, how could one word emanate so much influence? He shook off any feelings of nervousness and pushed the gate open. In there, columns of blackstone lined the colonnade, reaching back until it hit the throne of the king.
There stood the menacing glare of his father, as he didn't even attempt to hide his look of disapproval and disappointment. His eyebrows furrowed into frustration the longer he looked at his son.
Kai calmed his heart rate and took long strides to confront his father. However his actions stopped as he stood still, interrupted by the call resonating within the main hall.
"Stop" The king groaned in nuisance. "Realize your mistakes this time. If you make it again, get out of my sight." He spat out.
Kai's tense shoulders relaxed slightly, this time his father let him go with a warning, he had expected to be yelled at for a few hours, being reminded of his place, his worthy that meant nothing. This time the situation was in his favor. Without hesitation, Kai kneeled and offered his respects before leaving.
"May the demons of hell grant you the power to rule a thousand more years, your majesty."
The king offered one last look to Kai before turning around and disappearing into the shadows. The faint footsteps echoed until Kai could not hear any more.
Ba-dump, ba-dump, ba-dump
Kai stood in silence once again as the only thing he could hear was his heartbeat.
