The blood in my mouth had a metallic taste to it.
Or as I liked to call it, bittersweet.
I blocked a punch coming right at my jaw.
"This all you got?" My brother's voice was somewhat raspy.
He too, was covered in blood.
He threw a punch at me, but I blocked it yet again.
"I should be the one asking you this." I was out of breath, but managed not to show it.
Arden was a good fighter, but I wouldn't lose to my brother today.
Dodging his punch was like doging a bullet.
He moved fast, but I was used to his technique.
Arden tried to distract me by throwing a weak and useless fist. He stepped forward, ready to strike again.
Oh, what a mistake he'd made.
I quickly catched his fist and threw a punch at his throat.
I stepped back, balancing my weight on my left foot and threw my right fist out in a curved punch at his temple.
My hand was still clenching his fist, so I used it, and my weight, to bring him to the ground.
I asked him what he wanted me to do.
"I want you to hit me as hard as you can." He said, completely out of breath. Grinning.
So I did.
-
I pulled him to his feet.
"You look pathetic." I walked over to the open window and picked up two towels.
I threw one in my brother's direction.
He catched it immediately and started rubbing the sweat and blood off of his face.
I did the same.
"You're getting better." He took a mouthful of water.
"Don't do that." I shot him a look.
"Do what?"
"Act like you lost on purpose. You know damn well I destroyed you."
He laughed.
I hated his laugh.
Arden was 23 and two years older than me.
Heir to leadership of the Oswin, just like I was.
He always had to prove himself though. That's why he hated losing to me so much.
I didn't care.
"Next time, weapons allowed." He sat down in a chair, playing with his favorite blade.
"Looking forward to it."
A gust of wind shut the window. The movement came sudden.
The giant door was opened.
Two guards welcomed Cullin Kasprak.
The leader of the Oswin.
Most feared among all people.
