Unprepared and Disinterested.

The clock is ticking, almost obnoxiously, in my ears as I struggle to complete a test I forgot to study for.  I glance around at my classmates to see if they are struggling too, but I don't see any constantly erasing pencils anywhere. Leave it to me to be the only unprepared one here. I glance back down at my test and start just circling whatever sounds right. As I circle my last answer, the bell rings.

"Leave your tests on my desk in an orderly fashion as you leave."

The buzzing of kids immediately starts as I lay my test on the teacher's desk and walk out into the hallway. I ignore all of the noise as I walk through the never ending halls to my locker.

When I reach my locker, I open it and place my finished homework inside. I grab what I need to finish tonight and put it in my backpack. I go to leave when I'm stopped by my ex, Zander.

"Kalia, baby, I miss you."

I glance at him disinterestedly, "No." I decide to leave it at that and walk away. I can feel his eyes on me as I walk away. What a pig. Why I thought there was anything there, I will never know.

I walk out the open doors and start to walk home, breathing in the fresh air as I go.

******

I'm sitting in my sparsely decorated room when I hear my mother come in, yelling like the belligerent drunk she is. I try to ignore her as I work on my chemistry homework. I hear her stomping up the stairs and stop outside my door.

"Kalia, where the fuck is my booze?"

I roll my eyes and stand up. I walk over to my door and open it to see her standing there. She's holding on to the doorframe, so I guess it can't really be called standing.

"Is there a reason for all the yelling?" I ask showing my disinterest in the conversation.

She moves herself close enough to smell the booze on her breath. "Where is my booze, you ungrateful little bitch?"

"You drank it, obviously. Now, are we done here because I have homework?" I point to my desk where a pencil, a notebook, and open Chemistry book lie.

"No, we aren't. Go get me some. Now."

"I'm busy right now." I go to close the door, when she somehow manages to stop the door with her foot.

"Get it now. I'm inviting Ricky over." Ugh. I hate that man. The way he stares is disgusting. He constantly watches me with those leering eyes and is always grabbing some part of my mom in front of me. I will never forget the time where I woke up to find him in my room. He was standing there in nothing but boxers, just watching me.

I've told my mother how weird he is but she doesn't care. She's been like this since dad disappeared 5 years ago. He was walking home from work one night, when he just disappeared mid route. The cops found no evidence he even walked the street that night. Who ever did it knew what they were doing.

"Fine. I'll go get it." She stumbles away into her bedroom and slams the door behind her as I grab my keys and wallet. I grab my jacket and walk down the stairs heading for the front door. I make sure to lock it as I exit and begin my 15 minute walk to the liquor store.

This will be fun...

Hello. This is my first time publishing anything on here. Like, comment, and share. It'd really help to encourage me and my writing. I hope you enjoy it so far because this is only the beginning...
