Chapter 29
I was walking down the hallways of the hospital, looking for the room where Logan was. I had brought cupcakes and doughnuts, wanting to thank him for being there for me. He had been so kind and sweet and I always managed to embarrass myself or lose my temper around him. Plus, I missed seeing him when I was in Ireland. I blushed at my thoughts.
Sounds of loud laughter and cheering could be heard. It made me curious as to what was going on. I turned a corner and saw that I had entered the children’s ward. There were colourful paintings of animals all over the walls. The sound of a guitar and someone singing pricked my ears. I followed the sound, excited as the voices got louder. Pushing open the door, the sight that greeted me made me smile.
Walking around, strumming a guitar, Logan was singing a song to the children on the beds. Bright-eyed and flushed faces, they laughed as Logan jumped onto a chair and belted out the last notes of We are the Champions by Mercury. He honked his clown nose to make the children giggle even more.
“Some more, Logan, some more,” a little girl urged, her green eyes shining with delight.
He walked to her, picking her up into his arms. “More? Then, you’ll never take your nap. What would Nurse Betsy say?”
The little girl giggled. “She would be very mad at you.”
Logan made a very sad face, leaning his head on hers. “And do you want me to get scolded?”
“No,” she replied gleefully as she erupted into another fit of giggles.
“No, we don’t,” he agreed, placing her back on her bed and tucking her in. He turned to all the other children. “But, I say, who cares?”
The whole room erupted into cheers as he started strumming on his guitar again. Logan laughed with the children. He had not realised I was at the door yet. He was making funny faces and dancing like a monkey to the kids enjoyment. It definitely made my heart melt at how much he loves the children.
“Doctor Storm, there’s a lady at the door,” one of the boys said, staring at me.
The strumming immediately stopped and all eyes were on me. Logan’s blue gaze swept over my face, taking in my reaction.
“Oh, my, we have a visitor,” he announced, using a British accent. He looked at a girl who looked around 12. “Is she one of your acquaintances, Lady Lucy?”
The girl shook her head, smiling widely.
Logan shrugged and went to a boy. “Well, Sir Timothy, you must certainly know her.”
“It’s Captain,” the boy corrected, laughing from behind his hands. “Argh!”
Logan’s blue eyes widened and he leaned back. “Captain, aite? That’s mighty ferocious, mate.”
The boy’s eyes glimmered with happiness. “Argh. That’s right. Argh.”
I laughed softly, warmth filling me. These children really doted on him. Just as much as he doted on them.
“Maybe I should introduce myself,” he said, walking towards me. His twinkling blue eyes smiled at me.
“Ask her name,” Lucy said, smiling excitedly.
“She’s pretty,” another boy remarked. He looked around 9 and had a tube connected to his arm.
“She sure is,” Logan agreed, making the girls giggle and his eyes lighted up even more at my smile. He bowed and took my hand, placing a chaste kiss on my knuckles. “My lady, a delight to meet you. I am Sir Logan, ruler of Guitar Kingdom.”
