__________________________________________________________________________They made their last turn into the parking garage, making it all the way up to the fourth floor before the car came to a complete standstill in a parking space near a corner. Lexa was the first one to breathe out a heavy sigh, not bothering to get out of the vehicle immediately.
"Don't you ever wonder who exactly we're working for?"
"Nope." The p pops out of Luna's mouth as kills the engine. "They pay us enough to not ask questions. It's mind boggling to think that up until this day you still ask. Who cares who they are?"
Lexa followed Luna's lead out of the car, both women making their way to the trunk. "Have you never been curious about it though?" Luna popped the trunk and lifted the mat normally covering a spare wheel, but in this case, it was a hidden weapon compartment.
"No, Lexa. And if you don't stop asking dumb shit, I might shoot you in the head tonight."
Lexa scoffed, taking out her 9mm handgun, and shortly after screwing the suppressor onto the muzzle. She hated guns, they were too impersonal and sometimes made messes. Blood splatter on walls, furniture or god forbid on her Hermes shoes.
"You couldn't kill me even if you tried. You're way too slow. Besides, if you didn't have me, who would entertain you on all of our fun business trips?"
Luna only shook her head in reply, copying Lexa's actions in preparing her weapon. They were there for a young assistant of a tech developer that found out a bit too much and his employers wanted him disposed of. Poor guy was about to meet his end and he had no idea it was coming.
"It would definitely be a lot less annoying if you weren't here, Lex."
"Well, you know I didn't have much of a choice in being here with you or not. If it were up to me, I would've been here on my own."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever. I'm not talking about this again. Put this on." Luna handed her sister a mask. It was their third and final kill in Lyon for a while and so far, they were on a clean streak. Every single job went by without a hitch.
"What, we're dressing up as anonymous now?"
"It's what the tech developer wanted and so that's what we do. The instructions were clear. Did you not read the brief again? Come on, Lexa. When are you going to start taking this seriously again? This sloppy attitude of yours has gotten boring."
Lexa audibly scoffed as they walked toward the elevator. She never read the brief; they were boring. Killing never had instructions, why did it suddenly have instructions now? The job was starting to feel like they were playing dress-up for some sort of party, and not like the occasion to end a miserable life.
"I take my job very seriously and I don't know what this sloppy attitude is you're talking about. This is why I don't like working with anyone; because they can't keep up. You can't keep up. I want to have fun, you know, be spontaneous."
"Your spontaneous acts are going to land you in prison again and this time our employers aren't going to get you out again and you know that. Remember what Gustus said? If you fuck up again, they're leaving you behind bars and you know what? I think they should."
