"Have fun you guys!" Kirishima yelled as he grabbed his keys, twirling the chain around his fingers. Bakugou followed with a grunt, slamming the door shut behind him. Their footsteps echoed down the hall of the studio along with another slam, a quieter one this time.
Kaminari and Jirou sat in front of the Christmas tree, already embellished with neatly set strands of garlands resting on the branches and some twinkling multicolored lights. The blonde's job was to decorate the tree, which he had talked Jirou into assisting him with since he didn't feel like staying at the studio alone, decorating a tree by himself for the next hour or two.
"So around one week til the party, huh?" Jirou mumbled as she twirled the string of an ornament around her pointer finger. It was gold colored and satisfying to watch as the light bounced off it. The string was looped through the top of the ornament, which happened to be a small glass angel. There weren't too many smaller details, but it was a beautifully carved figure.
"Yeah," Kaminari responded as he hung a glittery red ornament to a lower branch on the Christmas tree. "Who do you think is going to be at this party?"
"Hmm," She replied, taking a moment to think over the people she was familiar with. "Yaomomo will probably invite her boyfriend, Shouto Todoroki," Jirou noted quietly, "That's one. Mina, Ochako, and Tsu will most likely be here too."
"Who are Ochako and Tsu?" The blonde asked, staring at her in confusion.
"Oh, I forgot you haven't met them," Jirou chuckled in response as she hung up the glass angel, taking a moment to admire how it glimmered in the soft light. "Yaomomo and I knew Ochako and Tsu back in high school, along with Mina Ashido. Recently we've all been able to catch up a bit."
"Oh nice," Kaminari replied, smiling cheerfully as he hung up another ornament.
"Mhm," Was her only reply, the room growing quiet.
The noise that was left was the jingling of metal cause by the ornaments hanging delicately from the Christmas tree's branches. Fingertips brushed against surfaces, the noise faint but noticeable. Neither one of them knew what to say, so they just focused on decorating the tree instead.
There were still a couple boxes of random ornaments lying around nearby, filled to the near-brim with miscellaneous assortments of ornaments Kaminari had dug out of his storage closet. They had both agreed on using a range of ornament colors and styles, a look that would vary in appearance.
It was too quiet for Kaminari to take, especially as the girl he loved sat a couple feet away from him, a glassy look in her eyes once again. A look of worry crossed his features, and he set the green ornament in his fingers down before asking, "Kyouka?"
"What," She mumbled, snapping out of her fixated gaze and looking at him with tired eyes. "Yeah? What is it?"
"Are you okay," He began, his voice filled with concern. "I notice you're quieter than usual. I, uh, just wanna make sure."
"Oh, it's nothing."
Kaminari knew her better than that. "You're lying," He blurted out.
"Pfft, how'd you know?" Jirou muttered wryly, looping the end of an ornament around a needled pine branch.
He sighed. "Is there something in the past that happened around this time of year? You seem bothered."
"I guess something happened," She responded lightly, giving a quick shrug of her shoulders. "It's not something I should be worried about. The past is the past, right?"
"You sure you don't wanna talk about it though?" Kaminari offered, smiling at her.
Jirou shook her head in response. "I'll pass. I don't like talking about it."
"Oh that's fine," He replied, "Sorry I asked." It's probably something involving her ex, he guessed.
"Don't worry about it," She said lightly, smiling back at him.
Kaminari nodded quickly. "And uh...this year, I promise I'll do my best to make your Christmas memorable," He told her, grinning.
Jirou chuckled, lightly poking him in the chest. "Thanks idiot." She was grateful for the multicolored Christmas lights masking the blush that crossed her face.
They both finished decorating the tree before taking a moment to glance at their surroundings. A few fallen pine needles were laying on the floor around the tree. Ornaments had rolled into random spots near where they stood, and random ribbon and garland were spewed across the room, most likely the result of another band member.
Other than that, the studio was pretty nice-looking. The lights inside the place had been hung up perfectly, courtesy of Yaoyorozu's handiwork. Garland was also hung up fairly neatly. Neither of them minded a few uneven parts, they were just grateful that Kirishima had somehow prevented Bakugou from destroying the decorations altogether.
"Should we clean this up?" Kaminari asked, breaking the silence as he glanced at the floor.
"Of course dummy," Jirou replied, rolling her eyes. She grabbed a couple ornaments within her reach and put them back into their boxes. "Bakugou's going to throw a fit if we don't."
He shivered. "I don't need another reason to run for my life again," Kaminari muttered, quickly helping her put the ornaments back into their boxes.
"That time on the beach was your fault," She noted as she began sweeping the pine needles into a small pile using one of her hands.
"You helped me!" He said accusingly, pouting.
"Well," Jirou responded, taking a moment to think of a comeback. "Ok fair point, but it was your idea, and the look on your face when he woke up was priceless!" The thought of that time the blonde was running away from a bloodthirsty Bakugou caused her to chuckle.
"Why do you always laugh at my pain?!" Kaminari asked as he picked up the random ribbon and garland off the floor and tossing a handful into the trash.
"Because it's funny," She said in honesty, shrugging.
He shot her a playful scowl before looking around the room. "Oh hey, we're almost done," He said, taking note of how clean the studio was now.
"Oh, yeah we are," Jirou replied, smiling. The place was almost ready for Christmas.
