"A duck"- I whispered.
"Why a duck?"-I asked.
Confused and curious, I tried to see further and further with my confusing and dizzy face. Looking further and further, I happened to see another yellow duck.
"Two ducks"- I shouted with excitement and shock, extremely flabbergasted.
Once again, I tried to see deeper, and what surprised me this time was that the two ducks were very close to one another like a boy staying tightly to his girl protecting her.
"What the ducks," I confusingly shouted.
Ring Ring!!
I opened my eyes, and I woke up with confusion. The first thing I saw was not the fan over my head that I saw every day, but the two ducks. And the first word I said that day was not "Oh damn, my alarm clock", but "Oh damn, why ducks".
I was not fully awake, but I had to go and shut my alarm up. " You are annoying," I shouted to my alarm after switching it off, and throwing it away to the other side of the room.
I partly opened my eyes, and looked for my phone, a new modern vivo model as my old one was broken, so I had to spend money for this new one. "Where are you, baby?"- I questioned myself.
And "BABY" was what I named it since I was just a lonely extroverted man without many friends, let alone a girlfriend. "Found you, baby", I suddenly turned the phone on, and guess what I saw.
"8:00 am" - that was what I saw, which made my two eyes opened as widely as they could like I saw a shining duck flying. "8 am," I shouted with disbelief, adding that "Oh my duck, I am dead".
I was a freshman at a university in the town, and I won a scholarship, so attendance was even more crucial than my exam grade. Failing to attend class for 4 times would result in my death because my mom would kill me if the news ever reached her.
"It is my first day, how could I wake up so late?" I asked myself, while blaming and cursing myself many times. Luckily, the class took place virtually because of the outbreak of the covid-19 in my city, so all schools were closed and would not be reopened any sooner, and we were all required to study online. "Lucky me, my lazy soul" I calmed down, while clicking on my brand new BABY (phone) looking for my online class. "Found ya, baby" I whispered happily with ease.
"Ting, Ting" I heard. "What time is it, new duck?" someone asked me. It was the lecturer who asked me. Feeling guilty and scared, I told her that I was sorry because I had dream, so I could not hear my alarm ringing.
"New duck, since it is your first day of university, your life is spared today, if this ever happens again, I guarantee not," she told me. "Thank you, lecturer," I said to her thankfully, but filling my brain with DUCK, I suddenly asked her unconsciously, "Why a duck?"
"Because you are a new student, so I call you a new duck" my lecturer explained to me.
Still filling with doubt and misunderstanding, I asked her repeatedly, "Why not a chicken, or a pig, or a hen", "Why a duck?". At the same time, I heard many of my new classmates, whose faces had not been seen, laughed. I then heard a reply from one of my classmates saying that "Because DUCK is a cute nickname", while another one replied "Duck is a new nickname, a new chicken has been commonly used", while some others laughed.
I was not really focusing on the lecturer and her lecturer at all for this morning as I had been wondering the whole day with the same confusion. "Why a duck"
