The Halcyon Days - Chapter 3

During  the week of bedrest i was soo bored . 

There was literally noting to do but stare at the ceiling . And what a nice ceiling it was , i spent a long time pondering how many layers of paint there was . For the record, there was 3 layers of paint , 

Well , on the first day, i made a lot of progress . I could finally sit up and move my arms by myself.

It was then that the excitement hit it's peak. 

I can use magic . AHhhhhhh. I can't wait to try . 

When a maid entered to bring me my lunch , i asked her to bring me a book about magic from the library. 

The manor library was huge , taking up about a fifth of the building . It has a ton of books , research papers , scrolls , research results , all left there by the previous owners . It is also one of the most secure places in the manor , seeing as how there are various magical defense tools installed by each generation . 

When the maid came back with my book , i had already finished my food . Taking away the try with the dishes , the maid left me in wonderful solitude . 

HMmmm , i think i should begin by learning  to use water magic. 

That was because ice , a secondary element , was quite uncommon so there were few to no book written on the subject . 

It was the low-ranking nobles who write the books , as it was deemed "unsightly" for high ranking ones to do manual work . 

However , the secondary elements were more common among the higher ranking nobles . Thus forming a huge dilemma , that has still been unresolved .

I guess i could find a book on ice magic if i searched the library hard enough . One of my ancestors should have had ice magic.

Learning Magic . 

There are a few ways to activate magic . Either through a medium like a mana circle or a mana stone.

Word of warning: Magic is extremely dangerous and is not a toy to mess around with . It is only taught to those who enter The Academy , at age 10 . Do not attempt before , as one needs a good grasp on their mana . It is highly dangerous for amateurs and should therefore only be learnt under supervision of a skilled adult . 

Activating magic using a mana circle . 

A mana circle is a circle made out of mana drawn in the air , it is the safest and most commonly used method.  There are many writings , symbols , etc. that are used in the circles to control variables like , size , shape , etc. 

 The easiest way of using this method is by memorizing the appearance of the spells , thus making the caster faster . 

To use , gather mana at the tip of the finger and picture the intended circle , then proceed to create a circular motion using the same finger . This would create the mana circle in the air , thus , all the user needs to do is pour mana into it .

This method is relatively safe , even if the circle is pictured wrongly , it would only cause the spell to come out not as intended . No harm done to the caster.
