Sticks and stones

may break my bones,

but words words will

always hurt more.

There is always a bullied.

A bystander may not see them, or know them. But the bullied is always there, in the background. Sometimes right in front of you.

The bullied of Bridleway High has a name, though no one uses it. Her name is Oakley Mirza. No one touches her, of course, no one would dare lay a finger on her, but they don't need to. She is driven into the ground by their words. They have left her defenseless, just with the simple syllables that form simple words, which mean so much more to her.

There is more to her than they could ever possibly imagine, but they don't care.

Being a 'mute' doesn't help her case much, either.

Fang Westbrook is the school's 'bad boy'. He's not the typical popular kind, though. He glares at everyone who looks at him, is avoided by everyone, and has only one friend.

Yet, he's still used as a sort of 'cool' pass. If Fang Westbrook is at your party, then your party is cool. If he looks at you, then you're cool. He doesn't care about this, of course, because he doesn't care about anything. No one knows of his dark past, and he's determined to keep it that way.

What happens when they both are forced to attend the same masquerade dance for the school, and are somehow pushed to dance with each other without knowing who the other is?

Well, bullies and bullied may be different, but as everyone knows, opposites attract.
