The second chapter gets better, I swear!
I woke with a start from yet another nightmare. When would these stop? My dream had finally happened- I was going to Hogwarts, so there was no reason for me to wake up 10 times every night. I checked the clock. 4:32. Crap.
I flopped over, only to find my cat, Lori, curled in a ball beside me. I stroked his musty gray-colored fur and rolled onto my side. Maybe I could get a few more hours of sleep before dad wakes me, I thought to myself as I slipped into yet another dream.
"Y/N! Are you up yet?" The voice of my father woke me from my dream. I was a Fawley, a part of one of the only pureblood families remaining; I could do this.
"Yeah dad, I'm up, give me a second!" I yelled in the direction of my door, picking up Lori as I stood. I smiled at Lori and kissed his head, setting him atop the windowsill to watch the birds flying through the late summer morning heat.
For the first 4 years of my magical education I had attended Beauxbatons Academy of Magic and I'd liked it fine but I wanted something . . . more. I was fed up with the preppy girls at that school and all of their stupid rules. So here I was, on the last week of summer break, and I was heading to Hogwarts. The Hogwarts. Which served under the magnificent Albus Dumbledore, who I had read plenty about the minute he had replied to my father's letter concerning my transfer.
Yes, I was leaving behind my friends, but were they really my friends? Every single one of them was a two-faced lying slug- I didn't want them in my life.
I changed into jeans and a t-shirt and made my way downstairs. The kitchen was filled with the smell of the house elves' cooking and I spotted my dad sitting at the table reading the paper.
I came up behind him and looked over his shoulder, reading today's news. "Anything interesting?"
"Not particularly, are you ready to go to Diagon alley?"
"Oh my god, yes. I wonder if we'll see any other students. . ." I wondered aloud, thinking. My father hummed and continued reading today's post.
"Are you about ready to head out?" My father asked me as I started to head to the fridge to grab some food.
"Yeah, let me just eat, and then we can go,"
My father and I had just finished our breakfast, pancakes for me, and we were heading out to the car. Plenty of witches and wizards refused to use muggle cars but my dad and I really couldn't care less. They're more comfortable than floo powder anyways.
I sat in the passenger seat and my dad slid into the driver's seat, starting the ignition and pulling out of the driveway of our huge Manor house.
"Do you have that list that came with the acceptance letter?" My dad asked me, glancing at me out of the corner of his eye.
"Of course I do," I told him, looking through my purse for the paper I was given. I would need to purchase everything, excluding a wand and my owl, which I already owned. My father had talked to the headmaster and persuaded him to allow me to bring two animals. My cat, Lori, and my owl Apollo, both of whom hated each other. I smiled at the thought of them; they were my children.
About an hour passed and we had finally made it to Diagon Alley. I was practically jumping out of my very skin with nerves as I looked at the sign to the Leaky Cauldron.
"Are you sure this is the right place?" I asked my dad who was in the process of getting out of the car.
"Yes, this is it." I followed his lead and made my way out of the car, walking over to where he was standing. He handed me a pouch that clinked when I took it. I should have expected this, he was sending me into Diagon alley alone. I frowned at him.
"Where's the entrance?" I said rather coldly.
He then proceeded to give me directions on how to get into the shopping area and got in the car telling me he'd be back in a few hours. I sighed, he always did this to me, dropped me off, leaving me to fend for myself. I checked my purse for my wand- it was there, safe and sound.
I made my way into Diagon Alley and paused before stepping in, giving myself time to take a breath. And with that, I stepped into a world unlike any other.
I gasped, shell-shocked of what stood before me. The winding cobblestone path twisted out of sight before me and lining each side were squat houses, shops-- everything you could imagine. There were people bustling here and there, none of them giving me a second glance. I passed countless shops, stopping at a few occasionally to purchase school supplies. My favorite shop by far was the Magical Menagerie. Cats prowled between buildings and the sound of birds filled the air. I turned and saw a brown-haired girl watching me from across the street so I gave her a smile and went on my way.
The few hours that I had been given passed in a blur and my time alone was coming to an end. I sighed and checked my watch. My father will be coming soon. I started to pick my way through the winding streets back towards the Leaky Cauldron when I was stopped.
"Hi! My name is Hermione Granger, I've never seen you around Diagon Alley before," It was the same brunette from earlier! Hermione extended her hand for me to shake so I did.
"Yeah, you wouldn't have, I'm actually transferring to Hogwarts this year," I told her then added, "Oh, Y/N Fawley, it's a pleasure to meet you,"
I hope you enjoyed the first chapter! (1005 words)
okay note: I have noooo idea what house to put you in..... what do I doooooo??? Being a Gryffindor would mean you more time with Hermione, quidditch with their team, and possibly snuggling in the common room, Slytherin would mean we could defend Hermione from Draco and his friends (and also be the coolest house), Hufflepuff means I get to describe the commonplace however I'd like and I can make some new characters for their house and Ravenclaw means we could easily relate to Hermione with all of her intelligence and we could also hang out with Luna more cause she's super cool lol. . . tell me what you all think!
