Silence. The birds that had once blessed the small town of gravity falls with their songs, ceased to sing in that moment. All that could be heard was the rain as it collided with the forest floor.
"I should really get that fixed." The voice of a man rang out in the distance. That man was Stanley Pines, the man of mystery himself. He stared up at the new or old hole in the roof over the porch. A small sigh escaped his lips as he cracked open a cold beer, glancing out at his yard only this time he noticed something...off.
By the edge of the forest was a large mass of sorts, a few feet from an old dirt path. Slightly curious and having not much else to do, the elderly man approached it.
"What the-?"
On the ground laid a boy around the age of sixteen. His short wavy black hair seemed to cling to his face from the water that pelted him from above. Cuts and bruises lined his face, that and hs seemed unnaturally pale. Wasting no time at all Stan grabbed the boy, lifting him onto his back before beginning the short walk to his house.
After finding some spare clothes lying around the house, and turning up the heat, Stan made his way up to the male who was starting to wake up. "Take it, easy kid, you're all beaten up. Here." The ravenette shivered looking up at the kind man before him.
"Th-thank you s-sir." He whispered as he took the pair of black sweats and grey hoodie from the male's hands.
"Oh, no need for anything formal. Just call me Stan." The man said with a small chuckle patting the boy on the back. "I'll go make some of my famous Stancakes. That should warm you up." A relieved sigh escaped the ravenette's lips as he slowly made his way to the bathroom, stripping from his wet clothes.
The look of his pale, beaten body brought a wave of sadness over him. Not only that but a wave of confusion.
What happened to me? I don't remember anything...No. More or less I don't remember a lot.
"Hey kid, I have some food ready for you! Come down when you're done." Stan called from the kitchen. This snapped the ravenette from his thoughts, as he pulled on the dry clothes that surprisingly fit him perfectly.
"Thank y-you for the clothes and food sir- uh I mean Stan." The raven-haired male stammered nervously as he took a seat, taking a small bite of the male's pancakes. "This is good." He praised a small smile on his face.
"I'm glad you like it." The older male chuckled taking a seat across the table, his own food in front of him. "So...you got a name?"
"Tanaki." The ravenette spoke softly his eyes staying on his stack of Stancakes.
"Okay, then Tanaki. How did you get all beaten up like that, and where are your parents?" Stan asked as he took a sip from his beer.
"I don't remember much. I know my name is Tanaki Shiro. My favorite color is blue...and...I-" Tanaki sighed rubbing his face feeling frustrated at his lack of knowledge. "It's all slowly coming back to me in bits and pieces, but at the moment it's all I know," Tanaki replied truthfully as he finished off his plate. He picked up the empty plates, washing them off in the sink before placing them in the empty dishwasher.
"Hmm... That is peculiar, but what the hell. You can stay here if you like, I can give you a job too if you like. You're looking at the man of mystery himself." The older male stated proudly as he straightened his posture up.
"I-I don't want to intrude."
"Nonsense. Here, you can take the room down the hall." The man said softly as he leads the way to the old run-down room. "It's a piece of work itself, but you're free to do as you please with it. Tomorrow if you want I could walk you through the position I have open. You can use the money for whatever you like." A smile found its way onto the ravenette's face as he nodded.
"That sounds too good to be true. Thank you, Stan." He watched as the old man walked down the hall to the living room leaving him alone with the room.
Why does he trust me so much? He let me into his home. A complete stranger. Then he gave me a place to live and work? This all seems too good to be true.
A sigh escaped his lips as he ruffled his damp hair, eyes scanning the room. There were a few torn-up science posters on the wall along with a desk with some deep carvings. What mostly caught his attention was a nice-looking pocket knife with the words, 'Trust No One' carved into the handle.
Once again his silver eyes scanned the room as he pocketed the knife. There was a small futon in the back of the room covered in miscellaneous papers with stretches of a triangle. Curious about the drawings, Tanaki walked forward gathering the papers in his hands before taking a look at their contents.
Some pages just seemed to repeat the same phrase as the pocket knife. Trust No One. Trust No One. Trust No One. Trust No One. This repeated down the page until it stopped. Another largely printed phrase was written at the bottom of the page. Bill Cipher Cannot Be Trusted.
"Bill...Cipher?" Tanaka furrowed his brows scanning the other pages to see the drawings of what he could only assume was Bill Cipher. "What's so scary about a triangle with an eye?" He murmured to himself as he continued to scan the pages. Soon he found himself reading each page aloud to himself.
"The lengths of his powers are unknown. One thing I do know is he is a danger to all of Gravity Falls. Not only Gravity falls. No the whole world." A yawn escaped Tanaki's lips as he looked out the window to the darkened sky. The rain had yet to let up, but he didn't mind. It was quite soothing to listen to. After setting the papers to the side, Tanaki laid down and slowly drifted off to sleep.
