Visibly exhausted but smiling, Ly'ra was comfortably ensconced on the bunk, a small bundle in her arms.
Ben let out a small laugh at Poe's, usually confident, hesitation before leaning in toward him.
"Congratulations, Dad. It's a boy."
At Dameron's surprised look, he laughed frankly before leaving the cabin, followed by BB8. Poe on the other hand, finally steps forward to his new family.
"A boy?"
"Does that surprise you? You're an only child, but in my family there's always been a boy and a girl."
The pilot came over and sat on the bed, raising an eyebrow.
"What, you want a second one already?"
Ly'ra raised an eyebrow in turn, suddenly looking menacing.
"You're never going to touch me again Poe Dameron, you hear me?"
The pair then exchanged a small laugh before Ly'ra leaned in slightly, finally presenting the newborn to his father. Poe hesitated for a moment before coming over to caress his son's cheek in his mother's arms. The presence of this tiny being made him suddenly realize the responsibilities that came with it. But he was no longer worried. He was no longer afraid. On the contrary. The happiness he felt in this very moment, nothing could ever alter it.
"May I?"
Ly'ra let out a small laugh before placing the baby in Dameron's arms.
"He's yours as much as mine!"
With all the thoughtfulness he was capable of, Poe gingerly picked up his son, a smug smile on his face. Then he lifted his gaze to his wife, looking suddenly slightly worried.
"How are you feeling?"
The young woman smiled softly before nodding, keeping her son's hand in hers.
"Tired. But I'm okay. Thanks to Ben."
"Remind me to thank him for all he's done for us..."
The young woman nodded softly, looking down at the small being comfortably ensconced in Poe's arms. After a few seconds of silence, the pilot frowned and looked up at his wife.
"Is he going to have any powers? The... The same as you?"
Ly'ra hesitated for a moment before shrugging a shoulder.
"I suppose so... Nothing is guaranteed, but given the strong presence of the Force in my family, chances are he'll be sensitive to it too... Why? You look worried..."
The pilot let out a bored sigh before explaining.
"It's not that... I'm a little worried about him... Wait, let me explain. From what you told me, with the Nightsisters, he shouldn't even be alive yet."
Ly'ra remained silent but nodded softly. Indeed, in her mother's people, males were not tolerated. Only for procreation. When a Dathomir Witch gave birth to a son, the shame was such that he was usually killed or sent to the Nightbrothers, where he was supposed to be trained to serve the Sisters. Nothing to look forward to, in other words. Poe waited a few seconds before continuing:
"And among the Jedi, I know that if a child shows signs of Force sensitivity, they are taken to a Temple for training..."
Suddenly understanding where Dameron was going with his explanation, the young woman took a deep breath and nodded.
"Okay. Then let me reassure you on one point Poe Dameron. While we were researching Takodana, Rey explained to me that she had every intention of reforming a Jedi Temple. But things were going to be different. Simply put, if our son is to be trained to be a Jedi, he will not be taken away from us."
