Alexei's P.O.V

Zachariel decided to stay another day at his parent's house. I felt lonely without him. I kept myself busy to fill the void. The kids slept till late in the morning after receiving their flu shots. I woke up early to prepare for my meetings. I was surprised when I heard Zachariel yell, "I'm home, munchkins!" I quickly walked out of my office to greet him. The kids ran out of their room when they heard Zachariel's voice. Bertha and Ocean grabbed the children to stop them from running down the stairs. The kids squealed, "Papa!" while kicking their legs.

Zachariel chuckled, then uttered, "Stay right there, kiddos. I'm on my way." The kids clutched their clothes while waiting for Zachariel. Zachariel hugged the kids, then said, "I'm so glad to be back home, kids." Genevieve looked worried. Zachariel placed a kiss on Genevieve's head, then asked her, "What's wrong, Genevieve?" Genevieve grabbed Zachariel's sleeve, then asked him, "How do you feel, papa?" Zachariel stroked Genevieve's head, then responded to her with, "Aw, thank you for your concern, baby girl. I feel as fit as a fiddle now. Your uncle Leonardo said that I'm strong enough to run a marathon." The kids giggled while hugging Zachariel's leg.

I kissed Zachariel on the cheek, then said, "Welcome back, Zachariel." Zachariel smiled, then stated, "The whole family had something to do today, so I decided to come home. I have already notified Marla about my absence." I threw my arm around Zachariel's waist, then responded to him with, "You have just recovered, Zachariel. Don't overexert yourself. Bertha and Ocean will take care of the kids while you take a good rest." Zachariel sighed, then uttered, "One of the medicines that Leonardo gave me makes me sluggish, Alexei. I wouldn't be able to look after the kids even if I wanted to." I placed a kiss on Zachariel's temple, then said, "I understand, Zachariel. Let's have breakfast now so you can go to bed."

I was just about to leave the house when Charlotte approached me. She smiled, then uttered, "Mia's former owners just dropped her off, sir. They had to leave for the airport earlier than they expected. I placed Mia in her cage. I'll set her free as soon as the weather clears up." I decided to check on the bird before leaving. The scarlet macaw parrot was happily munching on a macadamia nut. It seemed like she was pleased with her extravagant cage and toys. Charlotte chuckled when Mia peeked through the bars to observe me. I sighed, then uttered, "I hope that the kids won't ask me to buy her a companion, Charlotte." Charlotte scratched Mia's head, then responded to me with, "The kids know how hard it is to take care of these birds, sir. I don't think that they will want another one when they see how much mess and noise Mia makes." I nodded, then uttered, "I hope that you are right, Charlotte. It will be soon time for me to inspect my businesses in France and other countries. It will be troublesome to travel with the bird." Charlotte smiled, then uttered, "We'll take care of her in your absence, sir. Don't worry."

I shook my head when I realized how fond of the bird Charlotte was. I asked James to gather information on Oliver Nolan as soon as I arrived at work. James looked in bewilderment at me but didn't dare to comment. He was probably asking himself why I needed information on an unknown worker. I buried myself in work after checking on my father. James walked into my office at noon. He handed me a file, then said, "Oliver Nolan quit the firm this morning, sir. Oliver worked here for only a few months. He had a great track record. I don't know why he resigned." I frowned when I heard that Oliver Nolan had resigned. Something didn't feel right. My fears came through when I read that he had joined the headquarters right after Zachariel did. I asked James to arrange lunch for me, then called Triton. Triton instantly picked up. He greeted me with, "Good afternoon, Mr. Marquis," then asked me, "Have you decided what you want to do with Andrew Waltz, sir?"

I sighed then replied to Triton with, "Zachariel will take care of Andrew Waltz himself, Triton. I called you for something else. I want you to find Oliver Nolan for me. I have a feeling that he joined the company with the sole purpose of pursuing Zachariel." Triton huffed, then responded to me with, "I'll call you as soon as I know more about his whereabouts, sir. Oh, and before I forget. I found someone highly qualified, to homeschool the kids. Madeline Addison will be at your office at four o'clock." I replied to Triton with, "I'll be looking forward to meeting her," then cut off the phone. I sighed while looking at Oliver Nolan's file. It seemed like Andrew had never intended to let Zachariel live in peace. I wondered why he hated someone who had given him everything so much. Andrew was a fool. He would meet his demise soon. James walked into my office with a tray full of food, then said, "Mr. Erickson just called, sir. The rings that you ordered are ready. Would you like to pick them up today, sir?" I nodded, then answered James with, "Yes, James. Make an appointment with Mr. Erickson. I'll pick them up before going home."
