Ginny Weasley Knows the truth
"I wish someone had warned me
when I was younger,
now I stay up all night and weep;
the ghosts of everything you have loved and lost
come back to haunt you in your sleep"
-Nikita Gill-
Ginny Weasley was furious. Her steps boomed through the empty corridors as she walked by, her steps were fast and strong, and her eyes had a glimpse of fire that dared anyone to bother her, to get in her way.
Tears threatened to shed, her hands were clenched together, her mind rose with each passing second making it all worse and worse. Her two best friends, who she trusted with all her life, who she loved, with whom she could be herself, who she thought trusted her, had lied to her, not once, not twice, but a lifetime of times.
She wondered if anything that they had told her had been true or if it were all just big fat lies. She wondered why now, why did Luna choose to tell her the truth now, she wondered what had changed.
And the answer was obvious, the exchange students.

Ginny Weasley woke up to a scream.
She shot out of her bed, and out of her room, to where she supposed the scream had come from. Her mind rose with the terrifying possibility of Hermione being in pain; Ginny knew far too well that the brightest witch of her age, despite her attempts at convincing the universe that her world was not crumbling to pieces and that her soul was not dark, with no light left to bring hope to her life, had a breaking point. Ginny had heard it, at night, the screams that the nightmares brought, she had seen it, at dawn, when the door to their shared room at the borrowed opened and Hermione disappeared, with glassy eyes and a broken soul, she had perceived it, when Hermione came back, hours later, with a smile in her face that could have fooled even Dumbledore, but not her, not Ginny.
Hermione Granger had been acting weird for as long as the war had ended, mumbling in her sleep, disappearing at random hours of the night. It only took one glance at her to notice something was off, it took sharing a room with her for weeks and weeks to notice that everything was off. Hermione was ought to break sooner or later; to heal she first needed to let herself fall, to bury her mind in agony, to let herself feel the pain of the past, to cry and scream, to heal she needed to accept that she needed help, to heal she needed to let herself be helped.
"You can't fight forever. No one can fight forever"
Hermione Granger has a breaking point, Ginny proved.
It took seconds for the red-headed to see it, Hermione was fighting not to lose control of herself, her soul was fighting a war to stay sane, at least for the time being. Never before had Ginny seen Hermione Jean Granger lose a war to herself (or any kind of war), never before had she seen Hermione Jean Granger at the edge of screaming to the world, never before had she seen Hermione Jean Granger scared, until then.
It wasn't Hermione that screamed, it turned out, it was the new girl, if Ginny remembered correctly, Annabeth Chase.
Annabeth laid on her bed, she was asleep, she should look at peace, her eyes should transmit the peace that a mind that finally took a rest should, her body should be tucked away under her sheets, moving once in a while or never, she should look at peace... Instead, the girl looked in pain. Her eyes were shut close, in that way eyes shut when one is in a tremendous amount of suffering or in that way one shuts the eyes to try and erase a horrible image out of the mind, her body laid still, still as a rock, her face the real-life impersonification of torment itself. Her screams, the worst of it all, they broke the barriers of your mind and buried themselves in your soul, her suffering almost seemed like yours.
