Third pov

Brian felt oddly relive to hear Carter's voice on the other end of the line. He'd actually been so relived that the man hadn't even needed to ask before Brian told him everything that he needed to know and what happened with Phoenix.

"Is there any of you that know where my wife is?"

"No, but we're looking as best we can. In the meantime we're trying to plan for the last showdown with Shaw."

"Send me the coordinates. I may not drive like my wife, but I was the king of Miami's streets before you showed up."

"I guess we'll see you soon then."

Carter hung up.

"Verone's coming to help us?" Tej asked, he'd looked up from his computer.

"Yeah, think he'll get here in time?"

Tej shrugged. "He's Carter Verone. If he wants to get here, he's going to get here."

Brian laughed. "True."

"I'm what now?"

Phoenix had frozen in the middle of scrolling through the games on Cassandra's phone while she'd waited for the results of the complete physical exam that the other woman had insisted on.

"You're pregnant."

Phoenix felt like her brain had screeched to a halt.

"Do- do you know how long?"

"I'd guess about two months but I can't say for sure without an ultrasound."

Cassandra put a hand on Phoenix knee. "Breathe. This doesn't have to be an issue. Do you want kids?"

The redhead took a deep breath before answering. "I don't know. I've never seriously thought about it."

"But if you think about it now, do you want kids? Do you want to be a mom?"

She doesn't know.

Hell, she doesn't even know if Carter wants kids, it's never even come up despite their years of marriage.

But....

"I want it. I want the baby."

Cassandra nods and hands her a glass of water that Phoenix has no idea where she got it from. "Then you keep it. It's not like you're without support. Now, I heard you're planning on helping the Toretto clan. Think about a way to do that, then think about the best way to bring things up with Mr Verone. Sound good?"

The redhead nods.

Time skip

Danny made sure she had everything she needed and wanted.

Which made it easy to call up several contacts and finally Tej.

"Tej?"

"Shit! Phoenix? Where are you?"

"With a friend. Look, where are you? What plans do you guys have?"

She hears shuffling on the other end and guesses the phone is being handed over.

Brian's voice comes on the phone. "Phoenix, we're going to lure the people responsible out to get to them. Carter called just a few hours ago, he's on his way here."

"Is he okay?"

"Yeah, I think so. What's your plan?"

"I'm joining up with you guys. I think I can be there in a few hours. Does that work?"

"Yeah. We'll see you soon."

The call ended and Phoenix ran her fingers through her hair. This was turning out to be a bit more stressful than she thought.
