Jk I love all my readers even if their opinions are wrong :)I parked my Chevy in their gravel driveway and walked up the stack of wood blocks to their deck, wearing an old t-shirt and boxers for pajamas. I knocked and waited. The sounds of the night filled my ears- the never ending chorus of crickets, an occasional call of a coyote or a lone frog. I even spotted a few fireflies in the dark.
The door creaked open, Fi's dad holding the screen door out for me to enter. "Hey Jaycee! Come on in!"
Before I knew what I was doing I had my arm out to shake hands. "Good to see you again, sir." Luckily he shook it without a second thought.
"Fianna's in the bathroom getting ready. The rest of us are hanging out there," he pointed his thumb in the direction of the door that led to the barn. "Got the fire pit going, feel free to join us if you want."
I craned my neck to see the bathroom door. "Uh, thank you, I think I'll just wait for her if that's alright with you."
Unbothered, he shrugged and took a pack of marshmallows off the table. "More for me." He exited through the white door, closing it behind him, leaving me alone.
I took in my surroundings. It was a cute little house. Too small for four people, though. Her family must sleep in the camper I saw walking up. There were plenty blankets on the couch, some snacks on the coffee table. Two bowls of hot popcorn, a two liter bottle of Dr. Pepper, and a packet of peanut butter m&m's. Just one, though.
Then it hit me.
"Hey!" Fianna's voice breathed, finally coming out of the bathroom in a rose pink spaghetti strap tank top and short white pajama bottoms. Her prominent collarbones caught my eye. Were those bunny slippers on her feet?
She stopped in her tracks. "Nice shorts." She snickered.
I looked down. Then I posed, jutting my leg out. "Thanks. Stole 'em from my brother when he grew out of 'em."
"Gross." She laughed. "Looks too small even for Shawn though."
I furrowed my brows. "Hmm? Oh, no, I meant my older brother. He's 28."
"Ohhh... I see." She laughed. "Yeah that makes a little bit more sense."
My attention turned back to the coffee table. "You did not drive all the way out to get this for me," I picked up the package of m&m's so she could see.
She tossed her hair and stared at the ceiling. "No I just happened to... have the specific type of m&m's you like just, you know, sitting around."
I smiled at her acting skills. "Thank you."
"No worries." She exhaled tiredly, coming around to the front of the couch where I stood. "Sorry I took so long, it took me forever to try and figure this thing out." She lifted her leg slightly, drawing my attention to her newly wrapped cut.
