warnings: Jennie being so dumb it might make you angry, also mentions of hetero sex

February It might be cold but it's worth it when she's sat in her spot next to the river; the soft flow only masked by the melodic sound of Chaeyoung as she laughs at her and feels her cheeks pink from something other than the bitter chill in the air. Jennie is not good with the cold, she doesn't like it and she always finds it harder to warm her body up than any of her friends. While Jisoo and Taehyung would be cozy by the fire in Yoongi's large living room, she'd still be shivering under a blanket and glaring at the person who made her leave the comfort of her house.

(Usually Jongin.)

But he's far from Jennie's mind as she watches Chaeyoung shake her head again, probably at her. She digs her fingers into the material of her coat to stop herself from reaching out and touching her. Jongin is wonderful and kind and when he kisses her he's so gentle and she swears she can feel him smiling, but Chaeyoung is here now and her laugh is just so beautiful.

"Is Yoo his first name?" Jennie asks once Chaeyoung has calmed down a little and she lets out a tiny snort, her eyes widening in embarrassment but the brunette doesn't say or do anything to let her know how cute she is right now. Her hair is up high in a ponytail, a few strands falling loose around her face from her walk up. Jennie itches to draw her or capture her on her Polaroid, just to relive this little moment again. "Because it's ridiculous."

"No," she chuckles and she feels bereft when her eyes leave hers. "It's his surname. His first name is Pah-ki, I think."

"So," she pauses thoughtfully before shooting her a wicked smirk. "He's officially fuck you?"

And she laughs again.

"So how much trouble did you get into for not attending church last week?" She asks when they both decide to walk further into the woods. The scenery is beautiful in the winter but the trees are beginning to change once more and the snow has all but melted from January--a welcome blessing. Everything has a tint to it that's almost romantic and Jennie can't help but be distracted by it all. She barely pays attention to where she's walking and she completely trusts Chaeyoung to guide her, to keep her safe. She wonders how she must look to her with glazed eyes and an artist's smile.

"She wasn't happy but I told her that I didn't feel well and that I needed air," she replies easily with a shrug, leaving out that she'd mentioned that Jongin and her mother had brightened. She hates that. "I made sure to sing extra loud today though, did you hear?"

Chaeyoung lets out a soft noise and she turns to look at her. She's blushing just slightly, her jaw working like she's forcing words back down into her chest and she wishes, she wishes, she wishes she knew what she was going to say to her. The guard she has up always slips but she's so determined to build them again that Jennie doesn't want to do anything to risk not hearing that laugh so she let it go. "Yes, I think everybody heard you."

"Good," she preens, nodding once.

They don't speak again for a little while and it's not because Jennie doesn't want to. She's too busy losing herself in how everything sparkles and shines as the seasons change and Chaeyoung seems determined to beat some kind of personal record of walking through the woods and clambering over every fallen tree that she could just walk around. Like this, she doesn't seem like some politician's daughters whose weekends are filled with educational activities and whose future is planned completely to the end. She doesn't seem like an isolated teenager, scared of being herself and upsetting her town.
