Pov: Pandora

"King Ashford, your daughter must marry for the sake of your kingdom," says Samuel, the counselor who deals with the social state of our country. I've been sitting here for three hours listening to my father's counselors sing in preparation. Because apparently, a young lady like me doesn't know how to run a country. I'll teach them a lesson, once I have the power. I can feel my father putting his hand on my back and giving it a pinch as a sign that I can speak. Another thing, I can't speak until my dad gives me a signal I can. Long live male privileges, ugh

I cough and drink a sip of wine as liquid courage if you say anything as a woman. Nine out of ten chances you get laughed at and I don't have it again after these three hours to be laughed at. "Me? marry? No way, I'll run this country alone. I don't need a man to tell me what to do! "as I have uttered these words, it suddenly becomes deafeningly quiet in the consultation room. All the councilors look at me with their eyes open. In the background, you can hear servants walking through the corridors of the castle from met I know what for tonight's ball. Please someone say something... Normally I like silences, they are peaceful, quiet but this one is unbearable. Men are starting to whisper to each other. Finally, the infinite silence ends, but I'm not so sure this will play in my favor. The whisper quickly turns into conversations in a normal tone, eventually turning into cries from one side of the table to the other side of the table. My dad gets up and how. He slaps his hands on the tabletop, causing the glasses of wine to start shaking. I think a few of them fell over. "Enough! My daughter will get married!" now I get up too. "What? You can't be serious" my blood starts boiling. "A suitable husband will soon be chosen for Pandora and she will marry." He announces. The retarded son of a bitch! Just when I want to say something back, there's a knock on the door. "Come in!" There's Angelique in the hole in the door. Angelique is my governess, if my mother wasn't there, she was available. She heard my first words, watched me ride a horse first, and watch me grow up to be the woman I am today. In a trembling voice, she asks, "Princess Pandora has an appointment where she needs to be in ten minutes."

I get up with a sigh. "Finally!" I say, relieved. "Hasta la vista!" I say mockingly, waving to all the counselors including my father. The oh so mighty King Ashford.

I thank Angelique for the rescue from the conference room and she laughs about it. I don't remember having an appointment with anyone, oh well.

"Your mother asked behind you ma'm, you can find her in the castle garden," Angelique tells me. Oh lord stand by me.

I bid goodbye to Angelique when we reach the garden and start looking  for my mother. I don't have a close relationship with my mother because I was raised for the most part by Angelique. She was never there and didn't speak much to me, I never knew why. But since I reached the beautiful age of twenty-one, she's starting to meet me more and more. I don't have an explanation for this either. I walk between rose bushes and daffodils and when I get to the lavender plants I stand there for a while.
Lavenders... My favorite.
I take in the beautiful purple color and get a chance to lower my walls a bit. I bend over to be able to admire them up close and enjoy the soothing smell. The urge to pick one and push my nose in is great but I decide not to give in because I don't fancy an hour-long sermon from my father about leaving the gardens as they are.

"Daughter" I'm startled by my mother's voice behind me and have to stop me from falling on a pole so I don't fall into the lavender bushes. My walls immediately pull back up and when I get up I put on in a sharp look.
"Mother, why the pleasure?" I say mockingly.

Like I said before, my mom and I don't get along. We can never have a proper conversation down to my father's irritations. He's said many times that it's my fault she's behaving like that to me, and every time I say the same thing. "She shouldn't have left me on my own when I was younger" to which he keeps answering the same thing. "That makes you strong."

I never dared answer back because I was afraid I'd feel his hand against my cheek, just like he once did to my mother. I drive my bad thoughts to the past and say

"Are you going to give me another lecture about not wearing the dresses you bought me?" I say with a mocking laugh.
"Pandora, why the attitude? I didn't raise you that way."

"Angelique didn't raise me like that!" I scoff.
"I don't think you've ever changed my diaper"

"Never mind, I'll tell you what I have to say, and then you can waste your time with your father's counselors again." I nod as a sign that she can move on.
"Tonight is an important ball as you know and your father has given me the task of finding you a suitable prince to marry with " Oh she can't be serious! God help me!

"Queen Mary of Russia her son will be here tonight and I want you to get to know each other better. He's obviously a very charming guy and it would be a good alliance for future wars that need to be fought."

"And what might his name be if I may ask?" I say in a serious tone.

"Belial Kane Blackwell" the moment his name falls I feel like I just got a hit from a rock.

Blackwell's son, she can't do that to me, Bel and I are arch-enemies before we could talk. I'm not marrying, and I certainly not him. End of conversation.
"No"

"What do you mean 'no'?'" my mother asks a little in shock because of my sharp tone.

"Over my dead body that I marry Belial"

"You have nothing to say about this, young lady!" she says sternly. I've had enough of this whole wedding thing, so I'm doing what I do best. Turning my back on my problems and just processing everything. I turn my back on my mother and start running away.
"You're going to have to do this, Pandora!" my mother yells at me, but I stick out my middle finger at her to say this conversation is over.
