I stared at the figure, unsure of who it could be. They didn't look like a normal human in every aspect. The cloak, from what I could see, had a nametag: Choice.
Choice: I've been observing you for quite some time now Hannah. Quite some time.
He waved his hands, the empty space turn into several scenes of me: from my first steps, to my learning of the resistance.
Choice: I've had an eye on you. You see, I made a deal with your father.
Hannah: What was the deal?
Choice: I can control his life and in return, those he cares about are kept out of danger. I'm the one that creates the choices. I make sure the direction of fate is steered where I direct.
He waved his hand and I saw in front of me, several scenes involving my dad staring at the choices.
Choices: But, those days are pretty much past what they once were. Still, I think I've found someone new.
He smiled.
Choice: I know you won't accept. Nobody would. But, I'm sure there are people in your life. People worth keeping safe. People you would hate to see be harmed.
The images changed to images of my mother. Images of Austin, of the Clan members. Of my dad.
Choice: I'll give you some time to think about it.
With a wave of his hand, my vision was obscured, yet again by blinding blue. When my senses cleared, I found myself sitting on the bed wearing some clothes suited for parties. I had no clue where they had come from, but I had a clue.
Hannah: Do I really want this?
My mind raced. Sure, I wanted to keep the people I cared about safe, but would it be worth giving up control of my own life? I decided I would think about it more thoroughly after the party.
....
I entered through the large, illuminated neon yellow lighted doorway and looked out for Dan. In this place, he was the only one I could be familiar with. The room was quite filled, with people mainly near the dance floor. There were a few tables with food. After some searching, I found Daniel at one of the tables. He must've seen me as he invited me over.
Daniel: 'Ey Hannah! Enjoying the party?
Hannah: Well, I just got here. You tell me. Should I be enjoying this party?
Daniel: Probably not. Isn't much. I mean these cups are the best thing here.
He picked up a small red plastic cup and I saw the liquid inside dripping through a hole in the bottom. Daniel took a swig before retching in disgust.
Daniel: Eurgh! Talk 'bout cheap. Anyways, nice outfit ya got there.
Hannah: Thanks.
I reached over, grabbing from a plate, a small cake looking thing. I took a bite and instantly felt a spicy, sweet taste in my mouth.
Hannah: Say, what are thease?
Daniel: That's an Italian bun. Chocolate and chilli powder if I'm not mistaken.
Hannah: How do you know so much about this kind of stuff?
Daniel: Well, I guess I just learn from overhearing the past parties. Even those ended up better then this.
I reached over to get another one when, out of the corner of my eye, I saw Choice. I immediatly jumped in surprise, turning to look at him. However, he vanished in the blink of an eye.
Daniel: Ey Hannah. What up? Look like ya seen a ghost or some shit.
Hannah: Its.....nothing. Can you excuse me one moment?
Daniel: Sure.
I ran, finding a small room and entering. I breathed a sigh of relief, only for my vision to be again flashed by blue. Choice was standing there, looking...concerned?
Choice: Hey! Are you alright Hannah?
Hannah: I'm fine I...how did I see you?
Choice: Well, I probably wasn't carefull. Really, I was just making sure nothing bad happens to you. Unfortunately, I may have been slacking.
Hannah: You think? I had a heart attack when I saw you.
Choice: Relax. We just need to keep this as much of a secret as possible. Can't let stuff like this get out there.
I placed a hand on one of my eyes, feeling the coldness radiating from my eye.
Choice: It's hard to get rid of me without accepting the deal. I have a feeling you'll be too unstable to go the hard way.
Hannah: No! I won't accept the deal. I don't need you. I don't need any of this...this stuff. I'll find a way to get rid of you.
Choice: This isn't about getting rid if me. It's about helping you. I'm obliged to do so, seeing as Henry has done so much for me.
Hannah: What do you mean?
Choice: Let's just say, I had some..."issues" that had to be dealt with.
He squinted his red eyes, shuddering and, for the first time, showing fear. It looked as if he was trying to forget whatever it was he had dealt with.
Choice: Anyways, I'll leave you to make a choice on that deal. I'll be around, making sure nothing bad happens to you. Anyways, go have fun or whatever.
Before I could say anything, the flash of blue light came again and I found myself standing against the door, hand over my eye. The place where choice had been standing was now just dust in the air, in the form of a figure. I opened the door and walked back towards the party room. Soon, I met up with Daniel who was at another table.
Daniel: Ey. You 'right? Sorted what ya needed to sort?
H
annah: Yeah, I'm good. Anyways, can you pass some of the pasta?
