I felt the blood rushing back to my skin as the man disappeared. I sprung to my feet and swiftly moved to the kitchen. I could hear him behind me. I grabbed my coat and bag.
"I didn't see anyone" he protested.
I stopped at the front door and I realised I'd learned the layout very quickly.
"I can see spirit's. I can hear them to" I mumbled, putting on my coat. "I've been cursed since I was young. I've put my foot in it once to many times and I know when I tell someone, they freak."
When he didn't say anything. I marched out the door leaving it wide open as I strode down the drive. If this was a film, I'd been walking purposely to a bad ass song but it wasn't. I didn't even stop when he was calling after me.
I think I safely got a few blocks or whatever away. I wasn't sure. I just knew I was a safe distance. I dialed Daisy's number but she didn't answer. I started walking again and wearing these heels began to be a huge regret. When I reached the edge of town. I got the first taxi I saw and went home, let myself into my apartment. My phone was indated with calls from Zak's number and I rolled my eyes. Make it easy on me, will you?
I left my phone on my bed. I ran a good hot steamy bubble bath and put on a soothing playlist of music from my Ipod on the dock. I was in the bath for I don't know how long but it was nice. The stress seemed to leave my whole body but the thoughts stayed in my head.
I hadn't even given him a chance to say something or even gave myself a chance to explain further. God, What was I thinking just walking out like that? I was used to this but he just made me lose faith in myself to bounce back. He must have heard more wild claims than mine on his travels. He worked in the paranormal for crying out loud.
When my skin started to prune, I got out and started dried myself, and my hair. I put it up in a bun and went to the kitchen. I ignored the missed calls from Zak and Daisy. I put on an upbeat playlist and moved around the kitchen to make myself a cheese omlette.
I had just started when my buzzer went. Without thinking I answered it and regretted it.
"It's Zak" he answered.
"Come up" I frowned and buzzed him up. I opened the door and walked through to the kitchen, and began to cook again. I heard the door close and then saw him at the corner of my eye.
"What you did was pretty rude" He blasted out, I raised my brows but kept my head down. "And then you didn't answer my calls? What's with that?"
I turned and slipped the omlette on to the plate, and turned of the cooker.
"People freak when they know what I can do" I finally answered, "It's like that program, Ghost Whisperer, it was on years ago. It's hard to be accepted when people don't believe."
"I have an open mind. That's all that matters" He mumbled, "So, I was going to suggest you come on a lockdown. You won't be on camera but it's just to see how you react?"
I shook my head and I just had to laugh. "Come with you, why? To see how I react? I've been living with this my whole life. I'm used to it."
"Just come, It will be good for you" He urged.
I don't know why but I ended up agreeing. He left satisfied after dropping the bombshell that we left tomorrow night. Like I didn't have a job or a life. Well, I didn't have a social life and he assured me that he could sort out my work and travel. I guess I had to trust him on that. What would I pack for New York? For five days. Good god.
