"Happy Birthday To You...Happy Birthday To You... Happy Birthday Dear Alyssaaa... Happy Birthday To You!" my parents, my aunt and uncle, my three younger cousins, and my friends along with my younger sister all sing loudly at the top of their lungs.
Today is one of the most cheerful days of the year. Today is the day celebrating..me! Alyssa Rose Jemm. Today is my fourteenth birthday.
As I look around, I see the shining face of my little cousin Judy, her five-month-old sparkling eyes staring curiously at the dancing flames of the candles that stick out of my favorite vanilla ice cream cake, I feel so lucky to be able to share today with all of my favorite people. I close my eyes, and make a wish.
Except that I don't wish, because what is there to wish for, when you have all you could dream of is in front of you? I pray, I pray that God will take a look upon this magical scene and grant Judy and her family, my friends and their families, and my family the gift of happiness, the kind of happiness that I feel right now.
The simply painted room is quiet when I open my mouth and suck in a breath. It's so silent it's loud. When I let it go, my friends and family all cheer as the many candles are blown out.
Ten minutes later, everyone is eating cake and ice cream around the long, wooden table, laughing and chatting.
My friends and I sit at one end, Kaylee and Jack sitting across from Cassie and I.
"Happy Birthday Alyssa!" Jack says for the millionth time. I have a stomach ache from eating so much ice cream, but I'm still having a blast.
When everyone is finished, we play some really fun games like Just Dance 2014, and Mario Bros. I win against everyone, except for my dad when we danced to Katy Perry's song "Roar".
My aunt and uncle decided to take my cousins home after playing tag with Danny, who was five.
Everything started to settle down and it was just Jack, Kaylee, Cassie, and I sitting in my room in a circle talking.
"Are you guys excited to start high school in August?" Cassie asked, flipping her straightened gold hair over her shoulder.
"Yes!! I can't wait to see all those hot senior guys.." Jack responded overly excited. We all laughed when we saw the look on Kaylee's face. It was somewhere between "There's a spider on the floor" and "constipated".
Soon after that I was climbing into bed, that nights excitement and delight still floating in my stomach. I closed my eyes and let sleep consume me with a smile on my face.
