The Lion And The Wolf (Kili and Fili Stories)

2. Kili's First Word

*Fili is 6 and Kili is 1 1/2*

One day Dis decided to go out and get some groceries and had Thorin watch the brothers. Dis was unsure and a bit worried about leaving her one year old son with her brother but Thorin insisted.

Since Kili was now one and a half, his time with his big brother consisted of little giggles here and there or cries but never any words escaped him. Fili thought he was old enough for him to start learning some words. Even little brown hairs began growing on Kili's head!

Fili sat with his baby brother on the floor in a criss-cross way. He grabbed a few of his toys to help Kili say their names.

"Okay Kili, this animal is a cat." Fili explained as he held up a small white cat figure. Kili looked at it with his big brown eyes.

"Can you say cat?" Fili asked.

Kili just sat in silence, staring at the cat figure.

"Cat." Said Fili slower.

Kili slowly reached out and grabbed the toy from Fili's hand and stuck it in his own mouth.

"No, Kili, you can't eat this." Fili took the cat away which caused his brother to giggle.

Fili sighed and thought of what he could do next for Kili. But the shouts of his uncle interrupted him.

"Fili! Fili, can you come here for a moment?"

"Coming!" Fili answered back, slowly getting up. As he stood to his feet, he heard the sound of a little voice.

"Fi....li"

"What did you say, Kili?" Said Fili full of shock and excitement.

"Fi...li"

"Uncle! Come here! Kili spoke his first word!"

"He did?" Thorin rushed to the living room where they both were.

"Yes! He said my name! I can't wait to tell mother."
