She was running, shadows following her at every turn, eyes looking at her, icy blue and sapphire red, amber and chocolate brown... She ran, faceless eyes following her, soundless shadows trailing behind her. However, everything has an end, and after what seemed ages of running, she came to a stop before a black wall that appeared to exist and not exist simultaneously. The girl wondered if this was a dream but immediately ruled out the idea. In no dream does the dreamer wonder if they're sleeping. Everything around her was hell and she supposed that life wasn't hell. Maybe she was dead?
She observed the wall, it was seemingly made of shadows (though that was supposed to be impossible) and therefore didn't look completely solid, but she was sure that if she dared to go across it or even touch it she would promptly be absorbed and a new shadow would join the wall. Be that as it may, there were still a couple dozen crazy shadows following her and she didn't want to die, not yet at least. Before she could ponder on the fact that she either crossed the wall or let herself be attacked by some lunatic shadows that whispered creepy things in her ear, she saw another figure on the opposite side of the wall.
At first, she couldn't distinguish between it (or them) and the shadows, but slowly the figure became more distinct, until the shadow of a girl, probably years older than her, faced her through a wall. She reached towards her, the girl was unknown, she didn't know her name, nor why she was there, but she felt a pull, so strong that she had to abstain herself from going across the wall of shadows to join her. Suddenly the red eyes staring at her from nowhere weren't that intimidating, in fact, they felt familiar and she was sure the girl was someone she knew or someone she would know. She held out her hand, the tips of her fingers barely brushing against the wall when . . .
The girl opened her eyes, she was in her bed, a layer of cold sweat all over her body. Her pyjamas stuck to her skin and her eyes burned. She was unaware of the fact that they were scarlet, and it wasn't as she tried to take a deep breath that she realised that she was surrounded by smoke, encompassed by fire; red, orange and yellow flames licking her body and she was burning, burning, burning...
She screamed and her mother came bursting through the door. The moment she entered the room every flame disappeared, leaving a scared girl shouting at the ceiling and a lost mother trying to comfort her without knowing what had happened. Two hours later the girl would be asleep, unknowing of the risk she had taken by touching the Wall of Shadows. Unaware that, when the time came, she would come back there again and that her life was just about to take one of the biggest turns she would ever experience.
The next day, they came for her.

Heyyy, so it's me. You can call me Ella if you want to. Anyway, I really doubt I'm going to publish this, but if I ever do publish it, then I'm sorry for the size of this chapter, but it's basically me playing around with foreshadowing and all that.
Whatever. So... if you ever come across this and for some godforsaken reason you decide to check it out, then I'm really glad and hope you enjoyed it (and I also hope that you don't think it's complete crap). Thanks!
~ Ella :)
