“I’M LATE!” I thought miserably as I literally flung myself out of the bus and thank God landed decently on the pavement. I power walked across the street, turned a sharp right and walked for all my life was worth.

My first day at a brand new school in a brand new town in a totally weird country and I had to over-sleep! I don’t like drawing too much attention and being late to class is definitely screaming ‘WEIRD NEW GIRL STARES!’ I looked at my watch. 7:40 “shi-” BANG! I stepped back stunned the pain beginning to course through my brain reverberating and reaching right to the back of my skull. As I registered the metal light pole blocking my view I lifted my hand and gingerly felt the swelling, tender spot on my forehead. “oww” I whimpered and continued my trek that was definitely going to leave a mark I thought grimly. As I saw the school car park and the glass entrance doors of the office I fastened my pace and jogged across the crossing, only to stop to the sounds of screeching tyres.

Before I had a chance I was lying face-first on the cold concrete road. The car hadn’t even made contact before I was on the ground hoping to have the car drive over me without damage.

As I lay as skinny as possible between the tyres with the body of the car over me I finally let go of the breath I hadn’t realised I’d been holding.  Either I was super lucky or super unlucky. I was desperately hoping it was the former as I think I deserved it after 17 years of the latter.

I finally summoned enough courage to elbow crawl from under the car, I cautiously poked my head out from underneath only to almost suffer heart failure as an expensively shoed foot was rudely stomped down next to my ear. A scream ripped from my throat to be answered by an interesting cuss word then effortlessly pulled out from underneath the car.

Before I had a chance to straighten myself and thank my saviour slash almost killer times 2, my favourite bag decided to have fun and trip me making me fall headlong into a wall… hang on, where did the wall come from?

“Are you all right?” a surprisingly melodic voice asked as I slowly looked up. I was confronted by dazzlingly bright sea blue eyes gazing amusingly down at me. I stared absolutely stunned, his perfectly tan skin suited handsomely with his blue eyes and professionally cut jet black hair that seemed to flow naturally back and gather together at the nape of his neck. I realised I was staring with my mouth hanging wide open. With a snap I closed it shut blushing crimson making sure to check that I hadn’t visibly drooled and tore away from his grasp, and muttered an inaudible “I’m okay”
