We started running, but kept watching as thousands and thousands of spirits escaped from hell. We curved off into the forest that was right next to the house. Unfortunately for us, the forest was thick and we couldn't get but a few feet inside before we couldn't move anymore.
"Damn it! Let's find a house to stay in and regroup our thoughts," I said, running back out to the neighborhood.
We turned around and started running to a house that could have been unoccupied by a demon or something like that. As soon as I exited the woods, fourty or so Zombies came from nowhere and started walking towards us.
"Go!" I yelled, leading the way to a house.
We ran around the block and found a large house that we broke into. The door was locked, so I just smashed it with my Machete. The door lock broke and we entered the house, looking for shelter and supplies to help us.
"Grab anything that y'all can find!" Jhett yelled, running into a bedroom.
We literally took everything from that house, but there was no sign of any weapons. I found some water bottles, but that was about it. Then, the zombies had caught up to us and started banging on the door. Jhett, Mae, Jack, and I held up the door from the zombies while Conner, Gracie, and Kaycie kept looking around for any supplies that could help us.
"We need to go!" Kaycie said, kicking open the back door.
Jack and Jhett ran as Mae and I kept the door from opening.
"Go, I've got this," I said, pushing Mae off the door.
"No, you'll die!" Mae said.
"I caused this and I'm gonna end it," I replied, nodding my head.
She shook her head, but left with the others, leaving me to handle the door. I closed my eyes and took in every moment. Every second the zombies banged against the door, a shiver ran down my spine. Every noise one of them made was terrifying.
"Let's play," I said, jumping off the door, but a piece of my shirt was stuck on a little piece of wood, making me unable to move.
I looked up at the door and saw that the Zombies were getting closer inside the house. I was lying on the floor, scared for my life. The Zombies opened the door and I was only a few feet from them. I was getting to accept my fate, but then, someone with a metal bat came running towards me and started to knock down the zombies.
"Stay down!" Mae yelled, smashing down the zombies with the metal bat that Gracie had.
"Oh my god," I said, relieved.
Jhett came from behind her and cut the piece of shirt that was stuck on the piece of wood. Jhett helped me up as Mae was knocking down the Zombies. Mae turned around and ran towards us, the zombies now piling into the house.
"Oh shoot," I said, standing up and not turning around.
We all jumped out of the house and landed in the soft ground. Jhett got up and slammed the door shut, keeping the zombies stuck inside. I grabbed my machete and got into my attack position(I don't know how to describe it, so just bare with me). Jhett let go of the door and we all started running to the back fence.
"C'mon!" I yelled.
Conner tripped over a rock that was in their yard. I turned around and ran towards her. I helped her to her feet and she started running again. I turned around and saw a hoard of zombies running straight at us.
"Zack!" Jack yelled, about to jump the fence.
"Noo, no, no, no!" I yelled.
I ran the fastest I'd ever ran before and grabbed his hand. Jack pulled me up just in time as the hoard was right behind me. I fell over the fence and onto my face, but I was able to pick myself back up and started running towards the next fence.
"Idea. Let's never do that again," Gracie said, running close behind me.
"Smart. I agree with that," I replied, jumping over the fence.
Everyone made it over the fence and we ran to the middle of the sidewalk. We sat down to catch our breaths for a few seconds before we'd have to keep running. We heard something in the woods behind us. We all turned our heads slowly and saw one of the demon moose standing there.
"Not these again," I said, worried.
Instead of there being just one, there were now ten of them surrounding us. They started closing in on us as we stood there, hopeless without escape. Riding on top of one of those demon moose, was Matt.
"How's it feel that we killed off everyone in your crew?" I asked.
"It feels disappointing. Disappointing in that I thought you could take them out easier than you did," Matt replied.
"So, you're in the business of taming demon moose now?" Mae asked.
"One, they are called Murder Moose, and two, yeah I guess so," Matt replied.
"So, get off that Murder Moose and fight us," I said, trying to kill Matt.
The Ruby's Knife magic was still on my machete, so it could easily kill Matt. Matt jumped off the Murder Moose and stood in front of me. I stood, facing Matt and hoping for him to die.
"Fine. Duel. Just Zack and I," Matt said, pulling out the machete he had earlier in downtown.
"Who ever wins, will live and who ever loses, dies," I added.
"It's a fight to the death," Matt replied.
"I agree," I replied, the group tensing up.
"Deal," Matt said, turning him back to me.
I did the same and walked seven feet from where we started. We stood in silence for a few seconds before Mae screamed duel. I turned around and blocked the first blow that Matt threw at me. I threw his machete up into the air and sliced at Matt's stomach.
Matt stumbled backwards, but not injured. We stood facing each other with death in both of our eyes. I ran towards Matt, but he got the upper hand and hit me in the head with the butt of his weapon.
"C'mon, Zack!" Mae yelled, cheering me on.
"You've got this, dude!" Jhett cheered.
I stood up and ran up to Matt again, this time making contact with my weapon and slicing across his face. Matt winced in pain and stumbled backwards onto the pavement.
"Is he... dead?" Kaycie asked, but Matt got back up to his feet, the scar on his face bleeding.
"Is that really all you got?" Matt asked, stumbling towards me.
"Let's dance," I said, running up to Matt, our weapons colliding .
I kicked Matt back and he kept stumbling backwards and trying to regain his balance. It was mostly from the magic that was on my machete. Matt started swinging his weapon and sliced my shoulder, making me fall over.
"No!" Conner yelled.
I stood back up and started backing up to get a running start, but Matt was persistent and kept flailing around his weapon, hoping to hit me. Then, I just gave up hope. I ducked one of his strikes and stabbed him right into the gut.
"Ahhh!!!" Matt screamed, falling over.
Matt hit the ground so hard that Salvullaz's spirit was ejected out of Matt's body. I could tell since a ghostly figure that represented Salvullaz came out of Matt's body.
"Matt!" I yelled, sliding next to him.
"Are you okay?" Jhett asked him.
"What... happened... I was standing in my house then I... uhh... blacked out and woke up here..." Matt stuttered.
"You're bleeding very badly. You're probably not going to make it," Kaycie said.
"Well, I lived somewhat of a life," Matt joked.
"You can survive this!" Kaycie yelled.
"No, I can't. Whatever overtook me was planning to kill me," Matt replied.
"It's alright, it wasn't your fault," I told him.
"I don't even know what happened," Matt said.
"A demon named Salvullaz possessed you and used you as a host to come by as human," I told him, explaining what happened.
"Well, at least I know what actually happened," Matt said.
"It's alright, it wasn't your fault," I replied to him.
"At least it wasn't," Matt joked.
Matt took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and stopped breathing. He was dead. It was sad since Matt wasn't the real bad guy, he was just the host of the bad guy.
"What do we do now? Matt's dead so there's no way Salvullaz can take another host since the book says that Salvullaz can take one and only one host," Mae said, reading the book.
I jumped onto a rock and started talking.
"We have to find Salvullaz and finish him off. It seems that we may have let thousands of spirits out of their proper place. We need to kill Salvullaz, more now then we ever needed. Dade died trying to save us, but he failed. I still feel personally responsible for his death and I need to make it right. Philip was taken by Tristan and given to Salvullaz for reasons I still don't know. We've lost people we love... people who meant so much to us... people who made an impact on our lives... we need to finish off Salvullaz once and for all. If he dies, then everything from hell and lower will die with him. We need fireworks and gunpowder. Fireworks are the only way to kill Salvullaz, so we need to transfer the magic from the knife to the fireworks and kill him. So, who's with me?" I finished.
"Let's do this," Jhett said.
"Oh I'm ready to kick some demon ass," Mae said.
"I'm ready to kill him!" Jack yelled.
"Screw Salvullaz!" Kaycie yelled.
"Whew!" Conner and Gracie both yelled.
So, it was on. We were looking for fireworks to finally kill Salvullaz once and for all. We were going to win this, whether I died or not. I believed in this crew, and I believed we could win. Sadly, only a few of us made it. Just keep reading... and you'll find out.
