Chapter 4

Julie let go of her son and grabbed on to his shoulders and gave them a tight squeeze.

Julie: Anyways, uhm... Ms. Jaeger said Mikasa and Eren would be collecting wood today, maybe you can go with them? How does that sound?

Leon was still a bit shaken and surprised but tried to snap out of it.

Leon: I- uh... Sure, why not?

Leon took a step back getting his mom's hands off his shoulders before heading out the door in hopes of finding his friends in the usual place Eren always likes to take a nap. Leon couldn't blame him, it was a peaceful and calm place, perfect for a nap, he even took one there too once before Mikasa woke them up by throwing water on them, that was a bit unpleasant but, it was still funny since Eren tried to speak but had water in his mouth so all that came out of his blabbery mouth were gargles which made Leon burst out laughing to which Mikasa followed with a slight laugh and then Eren joined them. Leon loves his friends, it's always so fun with them, saving Armin from bullies, sitting at the docks or picking on Eren, they would always be his best friends.

As Leon was approaching the gate he spotted an old, drunk friend sitting on a crate, drinking who knows what this time, ale was his favorite though, so Leon could only guess that was it.

Hannes: Hey kiddo, where you goin'?

Leon: Hello Mr. Hannes.

Hannes: Ugh I told you not to call me that, it makes me feel old.

Leon: Well, you are old, what am I supposed to do about it?

Hannes: Why you little- ah, so funny aren't ya? Got it from your old man, funny guy he was. Anyways, where you headin'?

Leon: To go collect some wood with Mikasa and Eren, they might already be done, though.

Hannes: Oh yeah, I saw them earlier, the came through here a good while ago.

Leon: Thanks for the useless information, see ya!

Hannes: Oh you're very welcome, bye kid.

Hannes chuckled as he turned back to his comrades and picked up his cards.

Hannes: That kid, he reminds me so much of his father, I miss that guy, he was a good doctor and a good friend.

Leon was walking up a small hill close to the Shiganshina gate and as he got closer he spotted the tree where he'd hope to see his friends sitting at and as he expected, there they were. There was Mikasa, picking up all the wood she'd collected, her beautiful jet black hair danced with the wind, enhancing her gorgeous black eyes, nature made her so much more beautiful, it was a sight that could kill yet make a boy fall in love.

Leon walked a little further and saw another one of his best friends, Eren, who was sat up looking at Mikasa, touching his cheek under his eye, he seemed to be crying.

Leon: Hey Eren, why are you crying?

Eren: What?! You saw that? Please don't tell anyone.

Leon: *chuckling* Sure.

Eren: I was sleeping and I had the craziest dream, what was it about? It seemed like it went on forever.

Leon: Oh, I see, you saw something scary in your dream and it made you cry? Did you wet your pants too?

Eren: That's coming from a guy who got scared by a butterfly.

Mikasa: That's enough, let's go now.

Leon: Already? I came to help you.

Eren: You're late, we could have used your help.

Mikasa: More like you could have used his help, you barely got half the amount I did.
