(Child!Lloyd) The Darkness Over Me (AU)

Lloyd's POV

He's coming, I can hear it.

The slow, dragging footsteps trailing towards the closet door were terrifying against the eerily quiet house of the Garmadons.

Why didn't you stop before it was too late? Why take another shot, and another, and another when you knew you would end up like this?

There was a pause in the footsteps, as if the elderly man had lost his bearings. However, just as abruptly as they had stopped, they started up again. This time, they were quicker, more resolute.

No, no. Please, just leave me alone!

A shadow of two feet cut through the light seeping into the cramped, dark closet as the young blonde boy's father reached his hiding place. The doorknob twisted slowly, the idea of what was to come almost electrifying the air as the tension rose.

I have to hide, I have to-

SLAM!

"Ohhhhh Lloyd?~" A masculine voice boomed, his dark silhouette looming over me as I sat shivering on the cold closet floor.

"F-Father...I-" My voice broke. I chanced a glance to the man above me and began cowering under that cold, intense glare he always assumed on these lonely nights.

"You what? W-What are youuuuu doing in h-*hiccup*-here?" Father demanded in a slurred tone. I grimaced, knowing exactly how this was going to play out before it even happened.

"F-Fine, don't answer meeee! J-Just geeeeeeet out!" He bellowed, grasping me by the collar and flinging me out of the closet. I landed hard on the floor behind him, shielding my head in anticipation of his blows. When they never came, I looked up and found him leaning against the closet doorframe, wheezing.

"Do you need some water, Father?" I asked cautiously, hoping to spare myself a few more minutes. His head shot up, that pure evil stare beaming right through me.

"Like h-hell I *hiccup* do! This o-old man is as b-b...built as I was twentyyy years ago!" He practically spat in my face. "How da-are you even think I'm...I'm as weak as...as you!"

I flinched, knowing I wouldn't be so lucky this time. His foot connected with my arm and brought it to the ground. I screamed in agony as I heard a snap, and I heard another as he moved to kick me hard in the ribs.

Blow after blow, kick after kick. It wasn't my fault my father had lost his judgement after Mom...Misako...died.

It wasn't my fault he drowned his sorrows in alcohol and drunk females.

It wasn't my fault he lost his job, ran out of money, and began taking his anger out on me.

But all that was washed away by my one true fault, the one fault that made all the others seem like my own, as well.

It was my fault for being weak...too weak to break free from this darkness over me.
