"This'll be tough..." (Y/n)s hand didn't move from the doorknob, their gaze dull as they stared blankly into the door
"What will?" Shizuka asked, directly behind them.
"Telling him. What if he hates me...?"
The girl sighed, scratching her head through her messy black hair. "He... He won't."
Going through the door with slight confidence, however hesitantly, the two shuffled over to Tonios closet and peeked the door open, cringing at the screeching sound the bolts on the side made.
"I'm sorry for what you're about to hear," (Y/n) started, stepping into the enclosed space, "you can go upstairs if you want."
"Don't worry about me." Though Shizuka said that to ease the others nerves, it did nothing to soothe her own. worries upon worries stockpiled dangerously, like a tower waiting to fall over in the back of her mind. What if Tonio goes wild? What if he breaks loose? What if (Y/n) turns into one of those things early?
(Y/n) didn't seem to share the same concerns; At least, Shizuka couldn't tell from their facial expression alone, which was twisted into an upset one as they scratched the mark on their arm feverishly. "H-Hey. I won't lie to you, yeah? I'm sorry, Tonio, I got hurt."
The corpse said nothing.
"Please, don't be mad at me." They begged. "I'll always be here for you, I promise. So... It will be fine. It will... Be fine."
Still, silence.
"Tonio, Tonio, I'm sorry! I-I know all the trouble you went through for me, and I just.. I just messed it up like i always do. Please forgive me, please.." At this point, (Y/n) was on their knees, looking up at the sickly 'person' with tears glossing their eyes. "I'll try harder, I promise. I'll solve everything... Trust me, yeah?"
Shizuka had opted a while back to just sit at the dining table and listen in on the conversation, too awkward to go into the closet herself to watch it all go down. 'Do they expect that thing to answer them? There's just no way.'
She took a sip of water from a stray canteen, listening in on the quiet sobs racking from the closet with a frown. 'The man they seem to love is deeply gone, probably forever... Poor thing. Even going so far as to imagine he's answering them.'
Another cry, this time a bit louder, hiccupped from (Y/n)s mouth, making Shizuka begin to wonder; 'If I hadn't come, would this have gone on forever?'
"Tonio," They finally sobbed, "Won't you tell me something? Anything is fine. Just a small reassurance..."
Quiet.
"I...I really need to hear your voice." And then, they rose from their spot on the floor, chuckling to themselves as they wiped their cheeks with their sleeve. "Ahah, sorry, sorry. I suppose I'm too impatient."
Curiosity overpowering her urge to stay out of it, Shizuka hopped out of her seat and tip-toed over tot he closet, peeking inside to find that Tonio was actually letting (Y/n) pet his head.
"It's ok, soon we'll be able to talk again, right...?" It was such a sorry sight, something far too heart-wrenching for Shizuka to stand without wanting to break into tears herself.
"I-I'm going upstairs." She would mumble, not daring to stop and look into (Y/n)s eyes before bolting to the second floor.
"Sure, you can use my bed if you want." They called after her, voice husk and dry from their crying. "I'll... I'll just sleep down here for tonight."
