Love In The Present Tense

The Red Barn (Adrian)

After our brief meeting with Nona and George, Erica escorts us out the back towards a large red barn.

When we reach the barn she turns and says" Here you go, this should be alright for you 'time travellers' ".Theres a hint of sarcasm to her voice, but i can't help but give her a smirk.

she turns on her heel and walks away "See you tomorrow then?" I shout across the muddy dirt patch in front of the barn. she just turns and gives me a smile.

Uncle Claude pulls the two large doors wide open. " well this is great" he says stepping into the barn. I wish i could share his enthusiasm but I can't help but feel a slight bit of tread of what our future holds. " So do you have a plan to get us back home" I say with a bit of attitude.

Uncle Claude just smiles " Don't worry about that my boy, I have it all sorted up here" as he points to his forehead.

"That's all well and good but DO you have away for us to get home!?"

"Adrian i have been planning this for awhile, I WILL get us home. Now please be quiet, its been a long day and i need to get some sleep". He walks over to a fold out bed near the back of the barn and curls up to go to sleep

Once I start to hear him snoring ,I get up out of my stretcher as quietly as I can and sneak over to the front doors to the barn. I place my hand on one of the wooden Handel bars and slide it to the left, just enough for me to get out. I push my left side of my body threw first followed by my right.

I quietly slide the door back to its original position and I take off down the dirt track. The dirt track goes on for awhile until I hit the wheat field. I decide to unhook the gate and stroll on through. As I'm walking i can hear the"Crunch" of some of the wheat under my bare feet, it feels so nice. A little bit of a tickle, but still soft enough that it doesn't bother me.

I've been strolling in the wheat field for quite some time, so I decided to just lay right here. I chuck my body on top of the wheat and just lay back admiring the stars and the moon. Just as I was getting comfortable, I hear noises coming from behind me. I ignore them for a period of time before I decide to get up and have a look.

I start to walk when out of no where jumps Erica. "what the fu...."
"Sorry did I scare you" she said In between her laughing fit
"You think!".I walk away and sit down Again.
"Sorry, I saw you walking into the wheat field from my window. I just had to scare you!".I would take her seriously if she wasn't laughing so hard. I give her a smile, but I don't think she even noticed. I stare back at the sky, when she decides to plonk herself next to me.

"What you looking at?"
"Well I was admiring the night sky"
"Was?you don't have to stop since I'm here"
"Okay I won't then" I continue to stare up at the sky but she just can't keep still.
"Sooo.... anything interesting up there" I turn and look at her, but all I see is her big grin. She has a beautiful smile.

" Yes actually"
"Like what?"
" Well it's funny how when I look at the moon, it doesn't change. It's still the same moon that's back in my time. Or forward. You know what I mean"
"I think I do, tell me about your time"
"Like what?"
"I don't know make it up"

"Okay... Well the world gets taken over by big green looking lizards and we wear marshmallows for shoes als...."
"Your such a liar" she says as she shoves me
"Okay maybe I was kidding around. I don't think I should tell you about the future. We could rip apart the time vortex or something "
"Maybe" she turns to look at me and I get chills. The way the moon hits her face. I can't help but admire her for awhile.
"Oh shoot, I better get going I'm up at 5." She says as she looks at an old pocket watch.

We both rise to our feet and start walking out of the wheat field. I unhook the gate and follow her out. We continue to walk up the dirt track until we reach the farm house.
"I guess this is where we part ways"
" I guess so " I reply
She starts to walk away towards the house.As I watch her my heart feels as though it's going to explode.

She's almost back at the house when she turns and runs back. She pauses for a second looking at me.Then she comes closer and kisses me. Her embrace is warm, I don't want to let her go.

We both pull closer together then we release. She looks at me, not speaking just looking. She leans forward and kisses me on the cheek then runs back to the house.

What just happened. I turn to walk back to the barn.
