To Blue, eating at another restaurant in town felt like treachery. But, ultimately, it would be the best way to ensure she and May would have absolute peace.
The food was decent, sure, but in reality, all she was looking forward to was her time with May.
It was hard not to look at her as potential girlfriend material. I mean, a good-looking face, a nice personality, and most importantly, maturity! That was a total "Yes!" in Blue's book. She had forgotten all about the food as her conversation with May continued.
"You seem quite nervous. Have you never gone out to eat with someone other than your parents?" Blue inquired.
"Nope! I actually snuck out again. I said I would be going to the library to study, since that seems to be the only place they don't mind. I just hope they don't call the librarian to confirm that." May rolled her eyes, taking a small bite out of her steak.
"Why are they so protective of you anyways? It seems so...inefficient."
"Welp, as you can probably see, I'm not the healthiest person in the world. I was born with the lower half of my body paralyzed and have the occasional muscle spasms, but that's practically it..."
"That seems peculiar," Blue claimed. "You can do almost anything a regular person can, yet they still take care of you as if your bones were glass?"
May scoffed. "It's not because they truly care about me. They just use me as a scapegoat to earn money and stuff. And of course, it never works."
"They sound like pretty delusional people!"
"They are, but at least they're not evil," May sighed. She took another bite of her steak. "By the way, why do you care so much about that restaurant?"
"It is my dream to own it someday!" Blue proclaimed. "I'm very passionate about cooking and business. Since I'm practically the main manager of that place, my skills range far and wide!"
"That's pretty amazing!" May claimed.
Beep! A ring came from her phone.
"Oh, whoops. Sorry, it's time for me to take some medicine. As I said, muscle spasms..."
She took some medicine as Blue politely waited.
"Sorry for the interruption-"
"No need to apologize! It is not something you can control, after all," Blue assured. "If you ever need help from me, just say the word!"
...
The rest of the afternoon was very lively for them, and now Blue was 101% sure that May would be a great person to be with. Whether that was as a friend or as a partner, it was nice to have someone around who looked beyond the screaming and impatient short girl she's always perceived to be.
She had a day off today, which meant a day at the park. Although the winter months were cool, today was a bit warmer than usual. There was still some snow clinging onto the trees, creating lucious scenery she could admire.
"I should've invited May with me," she complained under her breath.
A tall girl in a red trench coat bumped into her, forcing her to stumble back.
"Hey! Watch where you-"
"O-oh," Irene stuttered. "Hi, Blue."
Her hands tightened, bracing for the hurl of insults Blue was capable of throwing at her.
"Good afternoon, Irene," Blue greeted. "Are you feeling better now?"
"H-huh? Oh y-yeah. I still have a bit of a cold, but I'm doing better nonetheless. I'm sure I'll be able to go to work tomorrow..."
