We were given another set of clothes to change into before launch. They were suited for the desert, as expected since Earth was now desert ridden. We were ushered out of the room by 14 guards (because we are "dangerous") and shoved onto the bridge of our ship.
"Welcome delinquents! I will be your captain while you are here. It will take 3 months to get to earth, but so you will not get bored you will be put into cryogenics. Cryo sleep will allow you to make long journeys without aging! So you will spend two days before and after cryo to allow you to get adjusted. Now I will show you to your temporary rooms aboard Mother." Our captain, who seemed quite nice, escorted us to our rooms.
The door slid open with a master code to reveal two beds, she motioned for Fritz and Felix to enter. Once they did she locked the door so they couldn't get out to cause trouble. She then took us up to another floor through a clear tunnel like thing for an elevator.
She once again opened the door and told Jessica and Kelsey to go inside. Beckett's face showed signs of fear and Jessica gave him a reassuring smile. She then took us back to the elevator and took us down two floors. It immediately led to our room, there was a larger bed for two of us and a twin sized for the other.
"I am allowing you three to go and visit the others, I will give you the code to their rooms but you can only go there and back, no where else." She turned to go but Avery spoke up.
"Why are you letting us do this? I'm an outlaw, Beckett is a prepubescent child, and Lyrenna.... well... well that's not really a question for her."
"I'm letting you do this because as soon as you walked on my ship I knew that Lyrenna was going to take up the leadership, you know exactly how to help her do that, and Beckett is going to be her second in command. Don't ask me how I know, it's just the aura you three give off." With that, she turned and left.
Beckett slapped Avery upside the head, "I am NOT a prepubescent child. I'm 14." He stared daggers at Avery, causing me to laugh.
"Maybe the captain is right. Whoever is going to be in charge, you will definitely be a good second." I looked at a holographic message that popped up and it was the codes to the other's rooms.
"Hey Beckett, can you write these down so we don't forget?" I said as I nudged him.
"Yeah." He stated, grabbing a notepad and pen from his bag.
The elevator opened as he finished and an older woman stepped in, "You can go get your friends and then come to the bridge, you remember the way I presume?" She asked never breaking formation.
I just stared, I remember some of the way but I was to busy staring at the ship to know it. Just then Avery spoke up, "I remember." The woman nodded and left.
"How do you remember?" I asked
"Being on the run, if you were taken someplace you didn't know, you had to memorize how to get out." He stated matter-of-factly.
"Huh, okay. Well the. Let's go. We can go up to the girl's first and then to the boys. Fritz and Felix are on the same level as the bridge." I ushered everyone to the elevator that just came back.
— Avery's pov—
As we walked down the hall to get Jessica and Kelsey, Lyrenna quickly braided her long blonde hair. She moved so gracefully as she walked even though her hands were busy. A group of guards passed us and stared intently at her and I scowled at them.
They pushed Beckett because he was 'in their way'. When he regained his balance he reached for Lyrenna's hand. She looked down at him and gave him a reassuring hug.
When we got to Kelsey and Jess's room we unlocked the door and walked in. I stayed in the door frame to keep it from locking us inside.
"How'd you guys get in? And where is the guard?" Kelsey asked.
"The captain gave us permission to come and visit you guys whenever we wanted before cryo sleep. When Avery asked her why she said she could tell that Lyre was going to be the leader and I was going to be second in command." Beckett said with a smile.
Jessica spoke up, "So you guys are just here for a visit then?" There was a bit of irritation in her voice.
"No the captain wants us to come to the bridge, but we have to get the twins on the way." Lyrenna finally spoke up.
"Well then let's get going before we get to Earth, hm?" I said flat lining my lips. Everyone nodded and Kelsey limped along with the help of Jessica.
"So why does the captain think Lyrenna is going to be the leader?" Kelsey practically spat out her name.
"I don't know, she said Lyre gives off that kind of aura." I said giving Lyrenna a reassuring smile. She gave me a half smile and looked back down at the floor. I knew she hated when people assumed she would take up authority. Especially when others reprimanded her for it.
We got to the elevator and Kelsey asked if Lyrenna could throw her hair in a braid really quick.
"Sure, did you want a French braid or just a three strand like mine?" She asked
"Hmm, French?"
"Yeah I can do that."
"Thanks"
"No problem"
We reached the twins room and unlocked the door. The first one they saw was Lyrenna and they immediately engulfed her in a hug.
"Did you come to rescue us?" The twins asked in unison, a mischievous glint in their eye.
"No the captain wants us to go to the bridge for something" Just then the sound system kicked on.
"Come on slow pokes! We don't got all day! Get your asses to the bridge!" That was the captain's voice.
"Well, I guess we better get going before the language gets harsher" said Fritz.
