"I heard you're dating Ezra." Some girl said behind me.
I brought my full attention to what was going on behind me without being suspicious. The other people from the group left to go sit in their seats, leaving only two girls behind me to spy on.
"Yeah, we made it official Friday night."
"Congrats! I just hope it doesn't end up like-"
"Yeah, me too." She interrupted, her voice trembled nervously, seemingly afraid at the sudden topic. She made her way calmly passed me down to the desk in front of the classroom, her gaze making her way to mine before looking forward, unnerved.
"Hey, Sarah?" The other girl asked, standing at the same spot as before, causing Sarah to stop and turn.
"Do you want to hang out after school?"
"Okay..." she said coldly, making her way towards her seat, ignoring the tension between her and her friend and the stares of the students weighing on her.
The room went silent for a second and the only noise that occurred was the sound of a seat screeching against the floor and the movement of someone sitting down. I could feel the tension slowly dying as everyone started to go back to their business like nothing happened; going back to their friends, finishing an assignment or even napping on their desk and I was the only one confused as to what just took place.
Students slowly went back to their seats when the teacher entered the room. I just noticed that the class quickly became intense and quiet right when the teacher entered and I didn't know if it was something to worry about. Even the loud students that were laughing at the back of the classroom, not even two minutes ago, became serious at the sound of her heels clicking on the floor.
I looked to my right, catching two pairs of intense blue eyes looking at me with what seemed to be curiosity, a smirk slowly forming on his face as he made his way closer to my ear.
"Miss Valentina isn't someone to be messed with. She's very strict when it comes to her students especially the new ones." He whispered in my ear, sending chills down my back before moving his head away and going back to the cold front he had all along.
I looked back at Miss Valentina and saw her staring at me with a serious expression as if she caught me doing something bad, and I knew at this point that he was right about her; she isn't someone to mess with.
The hallways started to fill up with students after the first period and it was hard to maneuver through the claustrophobic spaces. Shoulders bumping and hands colliding, I finally attempt to make my way to my second class of the day with a slower pace, trying my best not to push anyone back or even step on their shoes by accident which could cause an unnecessary issue between me and the person. And as much as I wanted to do in peace, I could feel my skin tingle as if someone was staring at me, and sure enough, right when I turn around, the blue eyed boy is there following closely behind with his piercing eyes glued on me.I didn't want to jump to conclusions and accuse him of being a creep, but it feels like he's too invested in the whole situation of me living in Emily's house, and perhaps I felt like he's trying to dig deeper into that whole story. Either way, this kept going until I reached my classroom and he was still close behind, maybe even too close for my liking. He brushed past me, his shoulder quickly grazed mine as he made his way to the back of the classroom next to an empty desk which I knew deep down would be mine.
I slowly made my towards it, stalling myself from reaching that inevitable doom, and ended up creating a line of people trying to get through the rows of desks while doing so.
"Trying to avoid me?" He asked, chuckling at me cautiously sitting on the chair.
"Maybe, maybe not..."
"You sure?"
"I just think that you're spying on me because of Emily..."
He stared at me coldly for a few seconds before returning to his usual casual smile as if nothing happened.
"Why would I?"
"Do you know Emily?" I asked. I really wanted to know what correlation he has with Emily, and why he's acting so secretive towards that subject.
"Yeah, she was always in my classes."
"I meant personally..."
"No, not really." He shrugged. "I know that she used to be friends with Sarah though."
That I knew. I guess that wasn't such a secret between Emily and Sarah, and it's possible that everyone here knows what happened, not only Eldon and his friend group.
His curly hair fell out of his hood as he looked away, seemingly ending this conversation with one head movement. As I was about to turn, I notice someone staring at me in the corner of my eye. Blonde hair tied up in a bun looking at me with dark blue eyes filled with distress, she seemed to wonder what we were talking about. I knew it was Sarah who was staring at us and for some reason, she seemed more interested in the fact that I'm talking to Eldon than who's this stranger she's looking at. She quickly looked away right when I made eye contact, seemingly agitated as if she was caught red handed.
I opened my light blue backpack underneath my desk, hiding what I had inside, afraid that people might see Emily's name engraved on her diary and wonder why I had her personal item with me. Grabbing the books gently out of my bag, I place them on my desk along with my pencil case, and as I was about to look down, I noticed a piece of paper next to my chair.
I picked it up, looking everywhere before placing it on my desk and reading it.
I looked to my right at the curly haired boy completely unaware of my stare and wondered if he was the one who wrote it. A part of me was sure that he wrote it especially when he's the only one who is link to Sarah and Ezra, now that I think of it.
However, I don't know if he's a good person, nonetheless, considering the fact that he seems so cold at the mention of her name as if Emily brought too many sinister memories from last year.
I sighed, looking outside of the window, watching the wind blow through the leaves, still thinking about this whole mess.
There's something going on here and I'm bound to know.
