(inspo: you were in my dream last night, by babygirl)
FIDDLING WITH HER BLANKET, her fingers anxiously wore away at the stitching as her eyes scanned the void room. Void of sound, surrounding her in darkness as her Master had already uttered his goodnights despite his Padawan's pleas for him to stay. Just until she fell asleep, at least.
Most children feared the dark, what lurked in the abyss; and Jedi Padawans were no exception. But, they were also of no concern to the Jedi, always reminding them that they'd grow out of such silly fears soon.
But, Eisha didn't fear the dark like her peers.
She feared something worse; something she couldn't escape.
Her dreams.
Always they were barren; empty, cold, and dark. Leaving her wandering the darkness, no guiding light beside her as she'd solemnly walk her nightmares until she'd have the joy of waking up: far more exhausted from her time asleep.
Sometimes a voice would joy her; a boyish one, laughing around her head as she'd walk on, and on. Eisha liked it when she could hear him, hear his voice. He offered her a sure comfort in her weary travels around her mind; guiding her, uplifting and protecting her until she'd wake up, again.
But, this night was different.
Instead of darkness, Eisha was met with light: squinting, blinking her eyes open as her arm shielded her eyes from the blinding light. Pushing herself up, her fingers grasped at the grass strands between her fingertips; brow furrowing as she rose, glancing around the scene in front of her.
Fields, flowers, rivers: encasing her in brightness as she stumbled forward, too caught up in the scenery to focus on walking. Head tilting up, she gasped at the brilliant sun beaming down upon her, warming her skin as she smiled.
'I like this dream.'
Walking onward, her fingertips paused at the touch of wood; glancing at the worn, crooked bridge coated a deep scarlet. Tapping at the wood, she glanced across the bridge; violet eyes widening.
There was a boy across the bridge.
Stepping closer, the wood creaked under her weight as her feet touched the planks. Hesitantly, she walked half-way: the boy unaware until she raised her voice, standing tall, "Who're you?"
Jumping at the sound, golden eyes shot to the girl halfway across; drawing nearer as he fumbled for a response. Standing shocked still as she crossed over, his mouth moved but no words fell; too caught up in the pretty girl before him. Glancing over her features, his gaze burned over her ethereal appearance; committing the varying flecks of violet in her gaze to memory.
Clearing his throat, he attempted to stand tall as her arms crossed, only finding himself an inch taller, "I-I'm—" Stuttering as she raised a brow, before throwing his hand in her face, "—Wolffe, miss. My name's Wolffe."
Eyeing his hand, her face fell blank as he anxiously waited; hand faltering before she quickly caught it. Grinning at him, she excitedly shook his hand as she gasped, "Wolffe! I love wolves! Have you ever seen a Loth-wolf? I think they're extinct, but my Master says—!"
Rambling to the boy, she continued to happily shake his hand as he tried to suppress his own smile at her enthusiasm: accent thickening the more she spoke. Waiting for her to take a breath, he smiled meekly as she eagerly bounced on the balls of her feet, "What's a Loth-wolf?"
Eyeing him curiously, she kept her kind smile as she held his hand instead, "Aren't you named after them?"
Mouth opening, Wolffe quickly closed it as he averted his gaze; disappointed to not know of the grand beings she knew of. Hand squeezing his, she smiled softly as he glanced back up at her, "That's okay. It just means I can tell you all about them now!"
Seeing her grin grow, he felt his own return as she beamed at him; nodding gingerly as she gladly spoke about her favourite animal. Babbling about them, they walked around their little dream garden as the eight-year-old led the way. Wolffe merely savoured the feeling of her hand in his, and the delighted grin she held during her explanations.
Jumping over a stream, Wolffe helped steady the little Padawan as she slipped on the soaked rocks. Sheepishly smiling, she gripped his hand tighter, blushing, "Thank you."
He only smiled wider.
"Oh!" Halting, she gasped as she swung their entwined hands, "I forgot to say! I'm Eisha by the way."
"I like your name," Blushing gently, he complimented her as she beamed at him.
"Thank you—!"
World fuzzing around them, Eisha paused; worriedly glancing at Wolffe as she held his hand tighter. Huddling closer to her too, his eyes scanned around their little garden; watching the colours fade, "What's happening?"
Lower lip trembling, her gaze fell downcast, "We're waking up."
"But, I—" Tugging her closer as she began to fade, he held on to his dream, "—I want to see you, again. I have to see you again! You're not just a dream," His grip was desperate, "Right?"
Meeting his eyes, she smiled half-heartedly, "I hope you're not just a dream." Quickly wrapping her arms around his neck, she buried her head into his chest as he encased her too, "But, if you are, you're the best dream I've ever had."
Feeling her hold loosen, he sniffled as she began to fade away, "If you're not, I hope you're not—" Violet eyes dimming as he began to wake up, "—Can I see you tonight?"
Eisha grinned, "I'll see you in your dreams."
"And, I'll see you in mine, Sarad."
They'd dream of each other every night since.
