"JJ, please back me up here," Penelope whined to the blonde beside her. On the other side of the video call was Emily, who was curled on her sofa with kitty Sergio in London.
"Hey, don't drag me into this, Pen; this is your crusade," JJ protested. Meeting Emily's curious gaze she sighed. "But I will admit that Spence is twice as reserved as before, if that is even possible."
"I think you're both forgetting the fact that he just suffered a crushing and devastating loss," Emily countered, scratching Sergio's black head.
Penelope pushed her two-toned hair behind her ears and her glasses back up her nose as she shook her head. "No, I understand and remember that all too well, Em, but he's just so...broken. I've never seen Spencer look like this before. He's so sad and wounded looking. It took us weeks to get him to open the door and even answer our calls..."
"And his neighbors even stole some of the gift baskets Garcia left for him because he refused to open said door," JJ chimed.
"Exactly my point! He was so pitiful and I hate seeing my sweet little babies looking pitiful, and as the women who know him the best and love him the most, it is up to us to help Spencer come back to life so-to-speak!" Penelope finished passionately. "Now that we have successfully stopped the Replicator, and we have had time to mourn over losing Strauss, I figured it was time to help get our old Dr. Reid back. Now, are you both with me or not?"
Emily's dark brown eyes met JJ's bright blues as they considered Pen's words. JJ ran her hands through her long blonde hair in exasperation before leaning her head on her hands to stare into the computer monitor. Emily glanced down at her sleeping cat, curled contentedly in her lap purring, and sighed as she slowly nodded in agreement.
"Alright, Garcia," JJ said. "Where do you suggest we start?"
"JJ's right, Pen; Spencer isn't going to want to talk about this with us, you know? Even if we are his best friends," Emily pointed out. "And you know he won't talk about this with Morgan, Hotch, or Rossi."
Penelope smirked, her neon pink glasses glinting in the lights of her living room and coordinating with the bright fuchsia of her dress. "As if I hadn't thought of that already, ladies. Did you forget how well connected I am or how well I find people? I already know the perfect person to have Spencer talk with, and have taken the liberty of contacting her."
"Wait...her?" Emily asked in surprise.
"Her who, Garcia?" JJ asked, turning to the woman with whom she was sharing a couch.
Cherub cheeks rosy and glowing impishly, Penelope beamed at her friends. "Her name is Angelia Thomassen and she's a professional therapist friend of mine. I've known her for several years and she has plenty of glowing endorsements." Looking between JJ and Emily briefly she chuckled. "Chill you two; like I would let just anyone help Spencer. Trust me on this one, please. Lia will be able to help him...I'm sure of it..."
Two Weeks Later
"Excuse me? Dr. Reid?"
Spencer looked up curiously from the book he had been attempting to study to find a petite woman with auburn hair and vivid green eyes smiling softly at him. The subtle scent of roses and vanilla wafted to his nose when the breeze blew through her long curls, and he found his fingers playing idly with the edges of the page of his book as he met her gaze.
"Uh, yes, I'm Dr. Reid. Can I help you?" he asked.
"It's really more of how I can help you, Spencer," she replied.
"I'm sorry...what?"
"Perhaps I should start over," she smiled. "My name is Angelia Thomassen, Lia for short, and Penelope called me and asked if I would consider speaking with you."
