*Callie’s POV*
Late one night the neighbor knocked on the front door and yelled, “Callie, open the freaking door! It’s cold out here.” I flung open the door and looked into his eyes. He’d just moved in, but we were already pretty close so I let him in.
“Hey Trent. Why are you out so late?” He looked up at me from his obviously all-too-interesting shoes.
“I- uh- needed to ask you something.” I crossed my arms, waiting. “Callie, can I.. Can I come with you?” My arms came uncrossed as I punched him in the face. He fell to the ground, out cold, and I dragged him inside. I looked at myself in the mirror that has always hung by the door. I was wearing my gray Under Armour sweats and a t-shirt with my new Mizunos. My wavy hair was down; messy from a long day at the beach.
I ran upstairs to get my cell phone. One new message. It was from an unknown number. I opened it, Cal, we’re waiting outside. Hurry up. Casey, it had to be her. I texted back, Case? Be out soon..with a little something extra. I started downstairs, slipping my phone into my pocket. “Hey Trent!” He moaned and I took it he wasn’t fully awake yet. I threw on the red Salem Witches hoodie I’d borrowed from him the day before. He already had on a hoodie so I left him as he was as I dragged him to the back door. As I opened the back door, I realized that we were wearing the same pants. I mentally groaned and dragged him into the backyard, closing the door behind us.
The first step I took, I fell into the mud. “Eww.” I muttered. I stood up and decided to just carry Trent to the fence. It took awhile but once I got to the fence, I attempted to throw him over it…He only made it half way, so I pushed him all the way over. I hoisted myself to the top of the fence, where everything went into slow motion.
I was swinging my leg over the edge of the fence when I slipped. I felt my other leg catch on the top of the fence and tear. The blood was warmer than my skin. Hot even. It seemed to take forever for me to hit the ground, I was just falling into emptiness.
My fall was broken when I hit something. I hit it hard, and my neck snapped from the sudden stop. I heard my voice, but it sounded distant, “Holy crap.” I tried to open my eyes but all I could see was the dark of the night. I strained my ears, to hear anything. I had no idea what was going on, and I was starting to feel...fuzzy? I was fading when I heard a slurred voice, as sweet as sugar.
“Calliee... Callie?” I struggled against the ‘fuzziness,’ but nevertheless, it was a losing battle.
