After going outside and testing their new Shields, the trio went back inside and inspected the demonite ore. They had given all their unholy arrows to Bell.
"That's demonite, the soul and soil of the corruption." The Guide said.
"The corruption?" Mike asked.
"Yeah, the corruption. A diseased land. It has gross monsters and it has a severe abundance of purple." The Guide explained.
"Oh wait, we've been there!" Mike said.
"You have?!" The Guide said.
"Yeah, but the moment we stepped in, a monster came over and just... hovered menacingly. We ran shortly after." Mike told him.
"Good thinking. That was an Eater of Souls. It can be really dangerous." The Guide said.
"Well, we beat the Eye, I think we're strong enough to brave the corruption!" Mike said.
"Wait! No, you can't. You only won against the Eye because of luck. I saw the entire battle. While your teamwork was impressive, if that star didn't just happen to land there, well...
you'd be dead." The Guide told them.
"I guess you're right," Zach said, "BUT! The battle with the Eye helped us with our teamwork. And we have these shields that let us dash out of danger."
"Okay. I'll let you go. But you need better equipment. Iron weapons and a wand of sparking is NOT gonna cut it."
"Okay, how are we gonna get our next weapons?" Zach asked.
"Give me that demonite for a second."
The Guide took all the demonite the group had, and smelted it into bars. He then went to the anvil and made a Light's Bane and Demon Bow. He gave them to Zach and Bell.
"Hey, what about me?" Mike asked.
"Well, I looked in the chests and found out you have enough gold bars to make a ruby staff. You just need the rubies." The Guide told him.
"So I assume to get the rubies we need to go into the caves?" Mike asked.
"Precisely."
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go." Zach said.
"Wait, you'll need 8 rubies to make the staff." The Guide said.
"You got it."
The group went into the mines and headed down to where they found the Life Crystal.
They looked around a lot, but just could not find rubies! They were finding more Life Crystals than rubies. By the time they finally found some, they all had absorbed 5 crystals, so they all had 200 health.
"Finally! We've struck gold!" Mike said.
The group mined up all 8 rubies and headed home through the magic mirror. It was already noon.
"Wow, we were down there for so long, we didn't even get to see the sunrise."
The group walked in and handed the Guide 8 rubies. He forged it into a ruby staff.
"Oh, and by the way, Mike." The Guide said.
"Yes?"
"Weapons like your wand and this staff run on mana. If you run out, you'll have to wait for it to replenish before you can use magic weapons again. Or, and you may have already figured this out, you can drink a mana potion to refill it faster. Fair warning, just like healing potions, after you drink a mana potion, you may feel sick. While not as intense as healing sickness, and it certainly does not last as long, attempting to drink another mana potion during that time will make the potion not as effective." The Guide told him.
"Alright, I understand!"
And with that, the trio set off toward the corruption.
